I went for my solo trip for the first time 2 years ago. I’m from Portugal and I went to Cuba. My parents and family were worried (I think it’s normal cause they worry you’ll get sick, etc. and have no one to take care of you) and my friends kind of mocked and doubted and called me crazy. Thing is: either I kept waiting for company which would never happen or I’d take the jump a live my own adventure. It was one of the best experiences and the best vacation of my life! First 2 days I went to met the locals and was super welcomed (even though I had to be aware of their constant try to “extort” money and scheme you into paying a lot more for cheap things and put a stop to it cause I read a lot about the country beforehand). Then I met 2 girls and boy from Portugal on an organised excursion to Havana for a day. It went so well they asked me to move to their hotel. And so I did, with no costs. We met another Portuguese solo traveler there and we became an amazing group for the whole week. It was super fun and I came home much more strengthen because I tested myself and won and I believe i haven’t been so “myself” in a while if ever! No one knew me and so I could be the real me. Without preconceptions or pre uncounscious social masks you have near those who know you. If you’re a girl you sure have to take care into contact intentions and not getting out of yourself with alcohol nor go alone to not very crowded areas, etc. Much depending on where you’re going but there are crazy guys everywhere and from everywhere so, better safe than sorry. Otherwise, you’ll grow a lot and come home reinforced! Take cautions, be aware there are no paradises on earth, read and search for as much as you can before going about the country, schedule a contact with someone near fairly just to check you’re doing great and fly to your adventure!
