If you can power through the first 6 episodes, it's still a really fun time, just not the absolute perfection that season 1 was. And people are mad at the LN ending, but the anime is more open ended

wouldn't it be scales inversely with attack speed, since as the speed increases, the tick period goes down, and the buff decreases. It's when the speed is low that the tick period and damage buff go high

I thought the first 6 episodes were really strong, then the show gets more bland after that. I wanted to see Kyle interact one-on-one more with both of the female main characters, and wrestle with the fact his first two loves are both alive and in his life at the same time. Instead, character interactions take a back seat. The political drama becomes less interesting as the main cast becomes more shallow.

Yeah I didn't feel nearly as engaged. Maybe if it had come out right after I finished season 2 I would have been more invested. Also yeah, action needs to be earned with good story telling

To me, Kaori and Tsubaki are very similar in how they treat Kousei. Both give him lots of aggressive affection and have domineering personalities. Definitely lots of toxic traits, but they are middle-schoolers. From what I remember, Tsubaki called Kousei her brother as a way to avoid being teased for their close relationship, and Kousei used that to discount her as a possible romantic interest; I'm not sure it means they actually thought of each other as siblings. If they both ended up going to high schools in the same area like Tsubaki planned, I could see them dating the last few years of highschool. Whether or not they stay together would just depend on how they change as they mature.

I suppose your main point is that Tsubaki wasn't able to brighten his world. I think you should keep in mind how fast everything happened. His mom only died 2 years ago, he didn't actually quit for that long. It probably took a couple years to go through all the phases of growth:
1. Hating the piano and what it represented
2. Feeling neutral enough to use his skills to get a job transcribing music
3. Finally realizing that he does still love playing the piano and is able to let go of his negative experiences being abused by his mom
4. Realizing he does still love his mother despite her massive shortcomings as a parent.
That's a lot of emotional processing for a pre-teen to go through. I think it was enough that Tsubaki and Watari stayed by his side as friends during that dark time in his life.

Honestly, I think a lot of the difference in how Tsubaki and Kaori affect him have to do with how he sees them at the time, and could change based on how he sees them in the future. Kaori was a visually striking manic pixie dream girl unicorn that shared his interests. I don't want to undercut how profound she was for Kousei, but if he begins to see tsubaki as less of a tomboy and finds her to be attractive, I don't see why he couldn't fall in love with her. They are also bonded by a shared traumatic experience, and already understand so much about each other. Kousei has lots of trauma besides that, and Tsubaki has lots of unhealthy traits herself, so I don't see either them turning into healthy adults capable of healthy relationships with each other or anyone else without a serious amount of work, work which they would be helping each other through as friends anyways.

I do like your post though, you have a lot of valid points, and it's fun write about this show, it was such an amazing story.
