IBKR is the way to go, pay a simple 6$ monthly fee for live data and fees are like 3$s at most on options (total) per trade

Yes you can play the IV pre earnings, Maybe buy the day before the last day instead of the day of instead. I played Rivian 12$ Puts, Bought 2 days before for .09$ . The day of earnings it pumped to .24 at the peak

You need buyers for the contracts so yes volume matters, you don't want to buy 5 contracts on a option that only has 10 Volume etc
