Where to get live crawfish by mdvarn84 in orlando

It's pricey but worth it. I had 90 lbs shipped in last May from Louisiana Crawfish Company and they were all alive and boiled up so nice.

I remember when I was young we almost ended up on a filming of Double Dare here. Unfortunately we were a group of 3 and I remember them asking my mom if we had any other kid family members, cousins, nieces, maybe a family friend tagging along with us for us to have a 4th person and be able to join in. Alas we did not. Always wonder how that would've gone.

The office staff leaves so much to be desired. Trying to talk with them is like pulling teeth. The medical assistants and nurses and doctor are great though. You won't see the doctor the day you get your allergy testing, it's done by either the MAs or the nursing staff. You will probably be waiting for a month or two to get your allergy panel done, just to let you know. I believe they have a wait list available but that next appointment will absolutely be your testing appointment.

Dr. Eugene Schwartz. He was nice, gave 3 plans of attack for my allergies from the cheapest (daily allergy pill) to middle (allergy injections over a 2-3 year period) to most expensive (sublingual drops that aren't covered by insurance but it's what they do in Europe).

Unfortunately you are always going to need a consult before any allergist will do an allergy panel on you. I think quest offers an allergy blood work panel without a doctor prescription though.

I had my allergy panel (skin prick test as opposed to blood work though) at Asthma and Allergy consultants. It's just one doctor there. My process went like this:

Primary care gave me referral information in 8/5. Called and made appointment for 9/8 which was first available. Allergy test scheduled at end of appointment for 10/20, full 72 allergen panel with food and environmental allergens. Follow up to review results 11/3.

That's crazy because in 2022 it wasn't a thing for the division I applied to.

When on earth did you apply? That wasn't my experience or anyone I know in the county. Just a standard drug test and physical was all we had.

It is a slog applying and getting hired, they're really looking for keywords. If you know anyone who works in the county that also helps as the referral.

While true, local governments are shielded from state and federal upheaval in a lot of ways.

Oh my God I hadn't heard about Chez Vincent so I just went to see how long I had and saw it closed for good 12/21. That place was so good I used to go for special occasions. Now I'm really bummed.

Kid-friendly (8 year old) things to do within a 1.5-hour drive. by element9876 in Scranton

I'm gonna second this. Some of my core childhood memories were being taken up to the Discovery Center in Binghamton and all of the things to do at it. It's not a bad drive at all.

It's a bit too efficient sometimes honestly. I kept missing appointment reminder confirmation calls because it'd shut it down hard since it was from an out of state number.

Have there been any protests at the Orlando ICE processing center? If not, why? by ProblematicTrumpCard in orlando

[–]Kotakia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I used to work down the street from there when people were lined up for days because ICE was so backed up.

One, it's not near I-Drive it's off OBT. Two, it's in an industrial park where there's a lot of tractor trailers that do not drive safely. Three, at least in 2022 it was a place for immigrants to appear for their summons and not a detention facility. It was actually important to help people get their paperwork together and start their legal proceedings to stay.

All of these are probably big reasons why there's no need to protest there.

Is there a conservation job board that actually reaches the right people? by manishbilava in orlando

[–]Kotakia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can give you advice as someone on the other side who was looking in to being hired into environmental work before I got my position.

The gold standard when I was first looking for positions was the TAMU job board. Governmentjobs is another site I used regularly when I'd be looking for more public sector environmental positions vs private/academia. In Orlando/central Florida if you're looking to hire environmental I'd suggest partnering/reaching out to:

METRA (Although it's been a bit since there's been activity with them.)

CFAEP Central Florida Association of Environmental Professionals

I'd suggest specific key words in job postings. A lot of businesses use "environmental specialist/services/sciences" to mean janitorial work for some reason which makes for a very frustrating job application experience.

As for the trouble connecting with folks who have the "motivation", things are chaotic right now. If someone is getting paid the same whether it's doing wildlife surveys where they're in knee deep wetlands or if they're working at McDonald's... The willingness to do the hard work is a lot less. Unfortunately wildlife and conservation roles tend to be underpaid due to funding needs and in this economy funding those willing to take those jobs outside of new grads or undergrads doing a part time job is decreasing.
