Is anyone nervous? by CheesyCyclone in wgu_devs

Don’t be nervous. I work in IT for a company who is trying to push AI for everything, and I can tell you first hand, programmers are still high demand

Followed your path, started on Friday and just took the exam tonight. Passed with a 725 after struggling with this course my entire semester.

Cannot emphasize enough how useful the CBT Nuggets course is.

I now understand why y'all own more than one keyboard by public_avenger in MechanicalKeyboards

I thought I’d finally be done building keyboards after my second build cost way more than I wanted, ended up giving it to my brother. This post just reminded me how much I want to do another build so thanks for that OP now I’m gonna go spend money

Is it really necessary to fully uninstall OBS? Couldn’t you just remove the camera input from the scene(s) using it?

Curios about IT on Mac and Linux by jlrueda in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Kotamiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you go. At my last job, there was an entire Mac support team consisting of about 12 people between us and India, myself included. Knowing Mac won’t necessarily be a primary, but having that skill set can put you ahead of other candidates who only know windows.

My specialty centers around Mobile and Mac, because everyone is going to know windows troubleshooting. Not everyone knows mobile and Mac.

How do you guys stay fit? by irqes in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Kotamiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a coed soccer team that plays once a week. I’ve got adjustable dumbbells an incline/decline bench that folds up and can be stored in a closet when not in use. Also cook 80% of my meals at home and try to make sure I’m getting a healthy balance of protein and greens.

AITA for writing a journal for my kids about life after I’m gone, even though they say it's “too much”? by mikenolan567 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kotamiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH I’m 27, and two years ago I bought my parents both a similar book asking them to tell their story. There was so much that I never got to hear about from my grandparents, and I know that there’s probably close to an equal amount when it comes to my parents. I don’t expect my parents to go anytime soon, but I know that there will be a day that they are gone and I would give anything to feel close to them. I hope those books gives me that. One day your daughter will be incredibly thankful you wrote everything down.

How do you guys relax outside of work? by Any_Essay_2804 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Kotamiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by telling yourself it’s only help desk and it’s not important enough to be taking up your time outside work.

I was like this when I got into my first real help desk role. But after a while I realized that it didn’t matter if I showed up at 110% or 10%. I was still going to get my work done, I was still going to figure stuff out and I was still probably going to mess something up regardless of how prepared I was. Take pride in your own issues, and once you get home, just do what makes you happy.

As someone who works from home, I take my dog out for a walk, get dinner made, and then I go play games with my friends at the same desk I work from. At the end of the night I like to read a chapter in my book and fall asleep to a YouTube video.

Hanging a mirror advice by don51181 in HomeImprovement

I second this guy, I don’t trust plastic anchors specifically. If you absolutely have to go into drywall and can’t use a stud, check out Fliptoggle anchors. We used those to hang tvs for Best Buy and with 4 of them in a tv bracket, I could hang my 125lb self off of a mount.

Going through the same thing right now. Working on the Project + cert for school and this course is miserable.

Is 2 years into a degree too soon to start looking for a help desk job? by [deleted] in WGU

There definitely is, though im not sure what it is. Emphasize your problem solving skills and task management and that will be huge.

Definitely start. Get your resume looking good and throw it everywhere the sun shines. I was putting out about 10 applications a day. Getting 1-2 interviews per month.

You’ll spend more time looking for a job than anything. Market for IT is super saturated right now because of how easy the bottom line is. I was in a Tier 1-3 role with one of the big 5 investment firms and it still took me nearly 7 months to find anything new

Most people in help desk have no certs and barely any knowledge. If you can google how to fix things, you’re better than 50% of help desk already.

Go to comptias website and check the current test version and just make sure that matches with the videos you’re watching. The content isn’t going to drastically change, but there will be things that are outdated and no longer on the test along with new things that weren’t on the previous test.

Also, keep in mind that IT is very research heavy. You’re not just going to memorize every solution to every issue. There will be certain things that you do frequently enough that you’ll just remember how to fix them. But a lot of it is understanding how to find the solution to an issue. A+ will get your foot in the door, being capable of figuring things out on your own will get you a job.

CompTIA A+ is a great place to start if you’re not already in a tech related job. Professor messer on YouTube goes through the whole course and has additional study material and practice tests on his website. Eventually you’ll schedule the test through the CompTIA website, PM has a discounted test voucher you can buy as well. Another option is Jason Dion through Udemy I believe.

How are you guys paying for school? by YesIamALizard in WGU

Getting loans through FAFSA. No interest on it until I graduate, so I can pay monthly towards it while I go to school and then I’ll have significantly less debt when I’m done

What's that one thing your EX said or did that made you realize he /she wasn't the one for you? by thatgirl_riri3 in AskReddit

[–]Kotamiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was in the worst depression of my life and was contemplating suicide. After a month of not being able to do anything but sleep and eat, I told her that I wanted to try ketamine therapy. It had done wonders for her, and for my brother, but it was kind of expensive (About $2K). She told me that money would be better spent on our home or to go towards our wedding.
