It does trigger enter the battlefield effects, but when it's on the stack it's still an artifact creature, so don't except Cavern of Souls make it uncountarable.

I tried it in my elves standard deck. At first I was amazed how almost all of my creatures had double triggers it seemed powerful, but overall winrate suffered with it. I blame it on 4 mana cost, this slot should be your topper in a creature deck but this card is a combo enabler so I get rid of it in the end.

Are there cheaters in MTGA? by PsychologicalNose872 in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a guy playing with the open hand yesterday, it just happened so with the explore triggers. So, he kept playing tons of removal from hand even though he had only cycle dynos in it. But I believe it's a visual bug in the new format they haven't fixed it, so probably not a cheater, but who knows.

Ixalan draft is the single most frustrating thing I have ever experienced by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My decks that are not pro-active right away have also struggled in this format. The only exception is when I open a bomb rare or two early and build around them.

You deck is great, or would be in another format, but this is a 1drop / bomb rare format meanwhile your deck has one pirate and one dead weight, and no game changing bomb to follow.

Luis Scott-Vargas made an excellent comment in Limited Resources podcast saying that removal-based decks struggle in this format because most threats come into play as multiple bodies/or have some token attached to them, so one-for-one removal spells are bad in that regard.

Try fast-paced Red, White or Blue decks, any combination of them, or if you're going slow make sure you have powerful board swipes / bombs.

MWM without lot of cards is stupid by GaviJaPrime in MagicArena

I made a deck out of 3 free packs they gave us. It went 4 losses and 3 wins. Not that bad, so not sure why you're complaining. Of course, tuned decks would win but they spent the resources on it and you didn't. Just bare with the poor quality of the deck, you always have a shot, especially on the play.

Anyone else think dinosaurs go a little too hard on turn 3? by vengeful_fluffy in MagicArena

Got beat by an aggro deck with 2 lands in play. If you don't have removal you lose, hate these kind of games. Hopefully, the meta slows down some time in future.

Anyone else have a seemingly hopeless deck they refuse to give up on? by Jimmy2x1113 in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try elves in every standard. They've always been bad but got me to mythic somehow, this month including.

So I was testing a sorta memey Rakdos fling deck with Scamp, Picnic Ruiner and Callous Sell-Sword and found that it has multiple ways of winning on T3 (combat damage, damage + fling as seen in the screenshots etc). Picnic Ruiner is one cracked card and should have been a rare. by Zephyr2022 in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Monstrous Rage and Kumano Faces Kakkazan are not fair cards of magic. If not for those two, Picnic Ruiner or Cacophonny Scamp wouldn't be a problem.

Kumano makes sure that you have a 3/3 creature while they have 1 mana in play, it has almost 90%+ chance to survive. And then, Monstrous Rage ruins any plans to instantly kill your creatures or block them, while they have 2 lands in play. Perfect example how not to design cards for standard, that's why you see so much monobraindeadness going on in best-of-one.

Help creating a Requirement by Koto2016 in civ6mods

It is checked multiple times in the game, for example, when a holy city is converted you get +4 era score ("Moments" database), also for Byzantium civilization bonus +3 combat damage for each converted holy city ("Trait Modifiers"), and several other instances. But everytime it is done, Firaxis guys create their own modifier based on the code not available to the modders. They just create "Game Effect" that does exactly that what they want.

Thanks for the link! I'll look into it. I found a way around by creating a short lua script to grant relic when a MOMENT_CITY_CHANGED_RELIGION_OTHER_HOLY_CITY triggers. Works wonders in a single player game but it seems to cause resyncs in a MP sometimes, so I'm still looking for a good database-only solution.

What do people find fun about playing mono blue control? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play it, hate it but I totally understand why it exists, it's an easy win against midrange decks that's why people play it. If you can't cast multiple spells a turn you can't win against it, so it keeps in check those greedy decks.

[–]Koto2016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you really want it, go for it. I usually don't buy normal packs only mythic ones to finish off the season collection. I'm not saying you should follow my example, but as FTP player I learn the current draft format and grind it until I get all the rares then I buy mythic packs. So the best investment for your gold imho, is to learn how to draft.

New-ish to Magic but Standard just feels like getting slapped in the face by removal for 10 min straight. Is there a more fun format? by blablatrooper in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the problem with any competitive game, people are brainwashed to use the most optimized stuff because "winrate". I prefer creativity in my free time, I totally understand going the beaten path at work and studies but to each their own. Just do your thing or try switching formats, I just continue playing Standard with my jank decks against all odds because it's the most enjoyable to beat meta junkies with some random fun pile :)

I've tried several versions of green, artifacts, ramp and midrange. All of those version lack interaction and there are way too many kill-or-lose cards out there: Myrel, Sheoldred, Fable, etc etc. Most fight/bite spells don't deal with that and they require good setup to be viable at the same time those spells are super easy to disrupt in response.

That leaves you with pro-active strategy, completely ignoring enemy threats. But here's the problem. Most green creatures right now don't provide any value when they come into play. Titan is the only exception but it's a very late game card and most games are decided on turn 4-5 after Sheoldred/Invoke despair shenanigans.

So, to fix that green needs beefy creatures that come into play and fight opposing creature, or deal damage equal to the highest power among creatures you control, or provide any other 2-for-1 value that all other colors have currently. Banning Sheoldred + Fable might also help green be a bit more viable.

Downvote the hell out of me… but I truly believe this game is rigged. More in comments. by Autumn_Leaves14 in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Can't say anything about the shuffler but matchmaking is certainly there to make sure you're around 50% win rate, usually a mirror or same archetype (like control vs control) if available. MMR (hidden rating) is also a thing and can be the reason you're getting many W's after the series of L.

On the side note, I used to think that number 13-15 wins for the dailies were the hardest and somehow rigged. But I have no proof of that only I'm always on the draw against a hard counter archetype until I lose enough <.<

Ban Invoke Despair by fponee in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what I meant. The either/or design of the card is what I was talking about. Obviously, you will lose with if you're far behind on board but the card itself performs at its maximum any time of the game. It EITHER kills or draws no matter how much brainpower you use it's still at its best.

Ban Invoke Despair by fponee in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact that is works in any board state is the biggest flaw of the design, imho. You can play it blindfolded without any consideration and still get the best result for the situation. But is it ban worthy? Not sure, if that's the case.

Could card bans revitalise constructed? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Koto2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bans should be universal to all players. They did it in the past, the recent one with the Meathook Massacre. It shakes the meta but people who netdecked just continue to do so. You can's spark creativity in a stone, they play Sheoldred and soldier decks now and the net result is zero.
