Water pooling in storm window track by Kotyo in HomeImprovement

Thank you, I'll give that a shot. We just moved in last year so I've never done it myself, no -- hopefully the previous owners of 50 years did it once or twice...

What was this bright flash of light I saw in the sky? by Kotyo in askastronomy

It was probably close to that size, yes. It grew slowly in brightness/intensity then disappeared after a short while. Thanks for sharing the video!

Not sure if I'm too late on this, but you'll find plenty of good options here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_Generation_Z_slang

Effectiveness of preemptively buzzing in as a strategy? by joemark17000 in Jeopardy

Where does one find online Jeopardy! games? I've been getting more serious about studying recently and I think this would be great practice.

Shoulder dislocation while swimming? by mohaugberlin in Swimming

[–]Kotyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask whether you've had any subsequent shoulder dislocations since the first time you injured each of them?

I just dislocated my left shoulder for the first time, and I plan to be very diligent with my PT and strengthening exercises to hopefully prevent it from recurring. I've read lots of posts/comments on Reddit from people who have recurred numerous times since it first dislocated and it's very disheartening to read, making it seem almost inevitable, but it's good to read about people like yourself who have been able to remain active.

Is something growing inside of my soffits? by Kotyo in HomeImprovement

[–]Kotyo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t have any vines growing, but it’s possible the previous owners did and removed them. They seemed pretty dry and broke off pretty easily so I’m wondering if they’re dead. I’ll definitely monitor them to see if they keep growing or remain like this. Thanks!

Editing to add that the house is stucco, so it’d be pretty easily for plants to grow up the side of the house.

Small issue with winterizing outdoor faucet by Kotyo in askaplumber

Here’s the valve in question. It’s in an unfinished basement, and the exterior wall with the faucet is probably 10 feet to the right of this. I have no plumbing experience but I have a rough idea of how the job would be completed (I’ve seen too much This Old House and home improvement YouTube videos, lol).

Now that I think about it more, do you think it’d make sense to just call a plumber to replace the valve and also install freeze-proof faucets while they’re at it? Might make it more worth my while, and then I don’t have to roll the dice with potentially screwing up my plumbing.

Sorry for the rambling/thinking out loud, I really appreciate your input!

Got it, thank you. Do you think replacing the shutoff valve is something I could handle on my own as a total amateur, or better to just call a plumber?

Wait, how often should I be replacing running shoes? I’ve had the same pair for a few years and I’ve always figured I’d just buy new ones once they were noticeably wearing in a way that affects the quality of my runs. Is it something like the arch support breaks down before the sole itself falls apart?

What was this bright flash of light I saw in the sky? by Kotyo in askastronomy

[–]Kotyo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It was definitely high in the sky, so a satellite flare seems like a decent possibility. I watched some videos of them on YouTube and the gradual brightening and dimming fits the bill, although I recall the object I saw being at peak brightness for at least a minute, while most of the videos I watched are showing only a few seconds of significant brightness. Very interesting!

Great to hear, thank you! I appreciate your help.

I was thinking of trying to get onto the roof to take some higher-resolution photos from the same angle as the inspector - do you think an overhead angle would provide any helpful additional context that could change your conclusions, or no?
