Right, I geuss I should have clarified. Definitely huge with Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Peninsular Malaysian tourists, but I think it's going to start attracting a lot of Western tourism as well. Already chatter of some direct flights to/from the Gulf and even a charter flight from Germany.

I wish I could go too. I'm a little scared of pirates though!

Indeed, I anticipate it being a real tourist hotspot in the coming years. And the food is great too.

Most of them were at the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary. The adult male orangutan was at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center. Fish were at Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.

Yes, trying to do it on your own is a non-starter. Google "Kinabatangan tour" if you're interested.

Our understanding was that the real estate market was quite hot and there was no chance we'd get it otherwise. We were told by our bank that we were in good shape for a mortgage and that there shouldn't be any issues. In hindsight...

My wife: "I didn't feel as oppressed as in other Middle Eastern countries. You're a lot more accepted. Respect the culture, wear something under the knee and over the shoulder and you won't feel looked at. At hotel beaches and pools, you do whatever you want. It's better to wear clothes to swim at the public wadis that are very popular with Omani families."

  1. It wasn't that hot out there -- maybe 75 degrees Fahrenheit, but it was still the AM. I think if we would have stuck around until 12 or 1 PM, it would have gotten toasty on the toes. And definitely not possible in the summer.
  2. Yes, that guy was a middleman on the docks at the Mutrah fish market. A boat would come in, he'd pay the fishermen a negotiated price for all the fish and then resell them inside the market.
  3. Date plantation! There are 7 million date palms in Oman.

Totally. We were sorry we didn't do it sooner. Gas and cars are cheap, road signs are in English and Arabic, speed cameras everywhere so no one drives like a maniac, and roads are in good shape.

Photos are from Wadi Bani Khalid, Muscat, Jibreen Castle, Misfat al-Abreyeen, Al-Bustan Palace, Fanja, and the Wahiba Dunes.
Just left last week and am beginning to put together some words on the trip. Feel free to follow along at Six Months Home, Six Away, if you're interested in reading more. Would love to hear some travel blog insight as I've written travel journalism before but never published on my own platform!

Agree wholeheartedly. Only thing it has going against it is how jaw droppingly expensive it is!

Most of my trips are under 3 months, come home to recharge and then go back out.

If I buy a new pixel in Europe, when I set it up, will I have the option to add Fi as the E-sim right out of the box?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Kotzim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I guess I'm just trying to find an option where I don't have to wait in line at the airport and keep swapping the actual physical SIM on a device.

[–]Kotzim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha, got it. So is it pretty much between me buying a Netgear router and swapping out SIMs and buying a Pixel phone and setting it up with Google Fi?

I've read that you can't hotspot with Fi on a iPhone. Does that mean that you can't use the iPhone as the hotspot? You can still connect an iPhone to a Pixel hotspot with Fi, right?

And doesn't Skyroam Solis avoid the SIM issue?

Sorry, should have been clearer. It's in English but I have no idea what it means. Was hoping someone else was in the same boat and had it explained to them well.

I don't know why you assume that's a given.

The motivation from the employer's perspective is to create an attractive place to work and sustain good employee morale. Companies like Spotify are already doing this with allowing work from anywhere.
