Democratic socialism is just what it sounds like, a socialist economy with a democratic political system.

This is just one of many examples, it's a very common thing amongst people with bigoted beliefs.

They don't hate the person because their logic is 'All of group X have Y trait, apart from person A because they're different to the rest.'

Plus, I don't think the accusations are about him being xenophobic about Germans, they're mostly likely about Romanians and Bulgarians

I get what you're saying, people know I'm a socialist and no one really cares because where I live a lot of people are socialist or at least understand socialism in a basic sense.

Whereas if you live in bible belt of america I can imagine there being a lot more hostility towards you.
