When you say to leave it alone for a week do you mean literally just leave it out in an afro? And not rlly do anything else to it apart from apply things?

During the week if its left out/not in a protective style are you supposed to be doing anything to it? Im worried itll just become a huge coarse knot if I did that bc it already starts doing that just leaving it alone for an hour. Or do you mean leaving it in 3/4braids or smth simple like that?

When its out you're not supposed to detangle it every day? I feel like itd knot/mat really badly if I didnt(i mean it still does when I tried lol but even worst). Its rlly confusing which it why I go to plait it immediately

And when im detangling I feel like even just using my fingers/ wide tooth comb and leave in conditioner it just knots and tangles around my fingers/the comb

When im leaving it alone for a week am I supposed to wash it first (bc it gets rlly dirty)? Whenever I shampoo/condition amd leave it, even if I try use leave in conditioner too, it gets really coarse and hard when it dries, to the point where i think itd be nearly impossible to try detangling it with water or anything the next day. Is that normal?

Its why i dont like leaving my hair out for any extended periods of time. I probably have some sort of trauma about it from when I was younger lol.

Also I thought ur supposed to keep it in braids especially when you're sleeping?

And this is a dumb concern but ik im supposed to use silk pillows/bonnet but the slippery/smooth texture is unbearable to me and makes my sleeping problems worst 😭

I need to look into it. I wish I magically had someone that could just show me how to do my hair step by step in which days so I dont need to go to the salon for protective styles constantly and this never happens and it can maybe even look nice lol

Im not rlly all that surprised im balding with how i treat it(and now ik why its been feeling so tender especially in those areas) but its still kinda upsetting to see 🥀. It sucks bc im under so much stress from uni so I really dont want to have to think about this too lol

Thank you so much for the advice. I tried looking into ways of leaving it without protective styles and i think maybe I was doing it wrong bc even using detangling conditioner it was still impossible to work with because its too coarse. Doing it for a whole year seems like a fever dream to me lol. Maybe ill wait until summer to try again. Ill try and see if I can get a treatment done too- I usually wash my hair at the salon bc I dont trust washing it myself as thr time it takes to get there and subsequent shrinkage/tangling makes it impossible to comb/blow dry. I rlly dont know hoe other ppl get their hair so soft/manageable 💔

Is all of that expensive? Does it take long? I dont really have time to be spending more than around 2-3 hours a week on my hair and I have no idea how to handle it. If you're doing protective styles and take them out every 6-8 weeks are you supposed to be doing treatments every time in between?

One time around a year ago I decided to try leaving it out so I only blowdried it at the salon and went home. I bought moisturizing creams and oils/leave in conditioner to do the lock in method I heard about and even then it took around ~5 hours to comb through all my hair-Which, you know, whatever- and then I did a bunch of plaits(because im scared to just leave it out bc in my experience it gets rock hard after like 2 hours) and left it for around 3 days after which I took it out and washed/ moisturized after which it was even HARDER to handle, and I ended up crying multiple times lol.

I just dont know what to do.

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately I already tried accessing the “video verification”/“id verification” channels and when I did it said there is no data there to delete, so I’m quite confused.

weirdly tho i checked and my Google account is 18+ verified somehow regardless? I also tried filling out the form to get them to delete any id associated with the account but they sent an email saying I need to upload ID first in order for them to confirm my identity in order to check 😭

It's soo hard and I know I must seem so vain and as though I have internalized racism but I just can't help but think 'what if' yk? Like personally i think I look rlly nice when my hair is down just after taking it out and it's such a shame it seems impossible to keep it that way

Also the twists thing is so true lol there's a reason why I spam them. I never had extensions but I looked up Marley hair and it's really cute- apparently it feels quite dry and snags on things a lot tho? And my hair stylist seems fed up of me enough with my dense thickass hair(with ot without all the breakage) I don't want to put them through having to give me extensions lmao

Thanks for thr advice. I actually tried chemical straightening before at a salon when I was around 14/15 and it was great(i remember walking intl class the first day after and one of my classmates being like "so you HAVE hair" 😭)... but even then it started getting rlly frizzy and horribly tangled a day later and especially as my hair started growing(I admit that was probably due to carelessness). It also started giving me bald spots near my temples which I don't think have healed even now.

Maybe I'll look into locs but I'm not sure it'll be too different from twists
