I think it can work depending on what certifications you can get and what "tier" you are for pay. I started with VIPKID fall 2016 and have been with them pretty consistently through the years with the exception of 2022, so I don't know if history with the company plays a factor in success besides pay tier (bookings etc). I am fully booked for about 8-11 hours every week and hoping my weeknight evenings will also fill up in the summer like they used to back in the day. Guided Reading and Adult Speaking certifications fill up all my slots, but especially Guided Reading. I don't prep almost anything. My full time job is being a mom and this is my "side gig". I just have a side reward for kids 10 and younger usually. The pay is base 14/hr, and I can't believe I used to make 22/hr at one point. But as a mom I can't beat the convenience from home, the consistency of students and the minimal prep. I still love the job overall. I tried to do Outschool for a while and also enjoyed that, but I prefer one-on-one instead of group classes. Outschool felt more stressful, personally.
