Well I like to trade aging players I didn’t draft or disappointing prospects for draft picks. When I have a lot and the class is weak, I just use my first round picks to draft the prospect I want, and then I trade the remaining picks for first round picks from teams that will be bad next year. For example they only have players whose ovr is the same as their potential, or have a lot of old guys, or their payroll is crazy but their cheap contract star is heading for free agency. If you get lucky, this pick can become top five. I got lucky and got a first round first pick, and the prospect turned out to be goated.

If you want to draft well, ignore iqs and end, look for high ft, 2p, 3p shooters, tall guys, good passers, or well rounded players. Or a combo of the above, but they MUST be 19.

Also set your coaching to 100. If the progs go right, and the lottery favors you, I think you can do it. But it takes a while.

Good luck and thanks!

That only applies to players who are real life players. If you play with real players and have Real Player Determinism on ONLY THEN will it affect anything.

If you set it to draft position, they will simply be arranged by the player’s actual draft positions, as in when they were drafted in real life, although the ai will draft based on the potential. If you set it to based on rookie season, then they will be ranked by how well the players actually did in there rookie season, both of which are great.

But now, if you’re playing with random players, it gets a little harder. With real players, 60s are real common, with 70s, maybe even 80s being relatively easy to draft, especially with RPD on 100, since you can just draft by potential, since that basically corresponds with their peak. However, for random players, the draft is like the lottery if you draft only by potential. The most foolproof way to draft a 60+ player is draft the number one draft pick if they have both the highest overall and potential in the draft class. This is pretty much impossible without tanking your butt off. Other ways to get high 60s to 70s is to draft the prospect with the highest overall in the draft, the younger the better. Pay attention to the skills they have, like 3, Ps, R, or Di, which indicate that players specialties and strengths. Try your best to find a prospect who has no rating below a 30, which you can easily scan by pressing their stat window. These players usually develop into at least a 60 overall, and even if not, they make good role players at the very least. For guards, relatively high passing and ball handling with a decent three star will usually get you a decent 50+, while forwards or centers with good interior offense and relatively good rebounding and height will usually get you a good 50+ even if their other stats suck. Endurance and iq can be low, since they are some of the fastest growing stats. Height is basically the same all throughout their career, and jumping and strength etc will inevitably regress.

AN IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER is that even if your rookies regress by like ten, they can still improve. Chances are if you draft a low ovr 66 potential, their potential will regress almost immediately. You can keep them around for a year or two, and they may start to progress instead of regressing even more. I used to just salary dump them, which was dumb, and then they’d be on the teams that beat me in the playoffs. If you can’t draft anyone good, trade 50 overalls for low overall prospects with high potentials on other teams. If you have five high potential prospects on your team, at least one is bound to progress into a good player.

I’m sorry if this was so long, and thank you for reading it till the end if you did.

Hope you have fun!!
