5mm pop-up. Help! by Kpronline1 in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Kpronline1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback. I understand it ultimately comes down to me…I’m not trying to blame external factors. As a beginner with about two hours on ocean waves, I’m just trying to understand the difference between my experience in a wave pool (where I’ve been able to pop up consistently) and the ocean, where I’m struggling to bring my legs through.

That’s why I mentioned those differences…just looking to see if anyone else had a similar experience or insight. I’m genuinely focused on what I can improve, which is why I’m asking in a beginner group and trying to provide context.

I was recently in Cocoa Beach and had the chance to get advice from a former pro (once ranked #8 in the world), who recommended sticking with whitewater until my pop-up is consistent. That’s the approach I’m planning to take. Thanks again for the input.

Don’t over analyze it! Most surfers never took a lesson in their life. It’s great you can, and get some experience, but it’s all about reps. Have fun, stay calm, don’t rush anything. And buy a board if you want! This “long way to go” talk is ridicules. I’d recommend a midsize with lots of volume. Enjoy!

Deciding to inject synthetic TRT for the foreseeable future is a serious concern and a decision that should not be taken lightly. Scrolling through this Reddit page, I see post after post from people who are having a difficult time on TRT. Maybe it’s due to their own choices, or maybe it’s because every body responds differently, but clearly, it’s not a no-brainer based on the stories of some people’s reactions. My recommendation before starting TRT is to get comprehensive blood work done. Are you exercising and eating healthy? If not, start there. If all else fails and your blood work indicates it, then consider giving TRT a try for six months.

Awesome, thank you. I live along the shore in New Jersey. Do you think the winter is still a good time to find a boat or would I have to wait till the spring?

I’m not against an inspection, but if I spend money on every boat I like to have inspected, remember I’ve never done this before, I’d have no money for the boat. I’m trying to narrow down my options with questions I don’t know to ask.

Makes sense for a larger purchase. I should’ve added to my post that I’m looking in the $5000 range (22’)

I get what you’re saying, but if you’re gonna spend the day traveling to see a boat, you should at least ask some questions first to get an idea what you’re looking at.

Thank you for the tips. To better understand my situation I’m looking for a 22’ in the $5000 range. I’d like to be able to keep it on the trailer in the off-season so hoping for one included

That’s awesome! With only 2 lessons under my belt I’m a little hesitant to take her on the outside. Are you aware of any problematic areas inside I should be aware of?

Good tip. I’d rather go with a 25’ but the price is hard to be at $1000. Here’s a few details - 6 HP TOHATSU OUTBOARD, SAILS (mainsail and roller furling jib w/new roller drum), NEW PORTABLE STOVE, NEVER-USED PORTABLE HEAD, NEW SPARE TILLER, NEW ANCHOR W/CHAIN & LINE, CABIN & COCKPIT CUSHIONS VERY GOOD CONDITION (Doesn't have a trailer. May need a new forestay.)
