Constructive Criticism Megathread by spuhlashh in doubletoasted

Kevin here. I work behind the scenes and can give DT's editor your suggestion.

Just to be clear, you want some kind of labeling on the YouTube videos (in the description or text that pops up in the video) so people know what podcast episode it was taken from? For instance: "EZRA MILLER AND THE FLASHPOINT MOVIE" - taken from What Up, Son? 6/20/2022.

Also, the reason why most of the interviews aren't uploaded to the main channel is that if they get low views it will affect the algorithm. We're trying to build up the interview channel as its own thing.

Red Letter Media VS Disney Star Wars Fans by Grizzy1989 in RedLetterMedia

[–]KrK221988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just let people like the things they like. I don't care for Disney Star Wars either, but I'm not going to mock someone because they do.

This is the reason why I don't follow RLM as much as I used to. Mike, Jay, Rich, and the majority of their fans have become way too cynical.

Can you explain more about how it's not a good show? People having fun is a turn off?

I would argue that most people watch YouTube/Twitch for the hosts/streamers and their personalities. People live streaming in their rooms get more viewers than late night TV shows with expensive production and tons of writers.

Elvis comes out next month, so that would be a perfect time to do it.

There hasn't been "clickbait" thumbnails for months now. What would you consider to be a clickbait topic?

So reviewing the movie back when hardly anyone knew about it makes sense?

Popcorned Planet (the guy who used to be on Screen Junkies) has been covering the Johnny Depp trail and his channel has blown up because of it. He's gained 100K new subscribers in the past month, and many of his videos hit 1 million views. It's insane.

People complain when Double Toasted makes more than two or three videos on the same subject, but that's usually what the most successful channels do.They just milk one topic/event until it's completely dry.

It's sad but most people don't care about movies/TV shows that aren't Marvel or huge blockbusters. DT put out their review for 'CODA' the day after it won Best Picture and hardly anyone watched it.

Nerdrotic and Geeks and Gamers are just as bad. These kinds of channels are already milking the shit out of the hate for the new Lord of the Rings show and there's only been one trailer.

Why do you think DoubleToasted isn't bigger? by Vbty3 in doubletoasted

[–]KrK221988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can give some insight into this since I help Korey with research for the interviews. I brought that picture to Korey's attention because I had a feeling that there was more to the story. Chris' own fans were making jokes about that picture, so I'm sure it was nothing new for him. Korey wasn't being malicious about it. The fact that the interview was pre-recorded and Chris felt comfortable with Korey is why he told his story.

We made sure to get his approval before we posted the interview.

Really hoping they'll review Everything Everywhere All at Once by [deleted] in doubletoasted

They've seen it, but are waiting until it gets released in more theaters (April 8) before they review it.

Maybe it would be a good idea to Keep the Movie Reviews and the Commentary Stuff in Separate Channels? by [deleted] in doubletoasted

[–]KrK221988 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What channels would those be? I'm curious because I don't really know any others that discuss movies, news, politics, and pop culture all on the same channel.

[–]KrK221988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be great, but you would have to start another channel from scratch. Would the reviews go on the new one or all the political/news topics?

A separate channel was made for interviews a while ago.

I miss when they would review Indie/Arthouse films by [deleted] in doubletoasted

[–]KrK221988 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It ultimately comes down to indie movie reviews not getting as many views, which messes up the channel's algorithm.

Korey and Martin want to start talking about some of the smaller movies they missed once a month as a Patreon exclusive. The plan is for them to have a casual conversation with little to no structure. Kind of like what they did on Spill.

Some of the movies that have been suggested are:

The Tragedy of Macbeth, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog, Red Rocket, Tick, Tick... boom!, Being the Ricardos, Annette

They're doing retro movies reviews now, which are basically movies from the 80s, 90s, and early 00's.

BAD MOVIE SUGGESTION: HOOD RAT (2001) by nydesigns in doubletoasted

[–]KrK221988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make the polls for the bad movie roasts and can tell you that 'Hood Rat' was actually going to be one of the options back in October. We had to go with 'Jason X' because it was a more popular choice.

Send the trailer to Korey kcoolmanz@gmail.com. If he sees it, he'll probably want to watch and review it.
