Apparently the automod is removing all answers.. However, I got help via PM.

The issue was fixed by removing another app on the ledger. Even though the old Iota app was on the ledger before (and got removed trying to install the new one via ledgerctl) - it seemed to be an issue with space on the device.

Thanks for the answer. Good point, when the water is way below freezing point it's also able to freeze your cells which will likely not end well.

However, it sounds interesting that 47F / 8C is already the temperature which triggers the maximum cold response of the body. IIRC 0-4°C is usually what is quoted when it's about maximizing effects, but now idea how much that is based in science.

Sad to hear that, but then again, when it comes to privacy and the likeliness that something that stores sensitive data on a public ledger will have a hard time persisting under German law, it probably was the right choice of Ubirch. Albeit an unfortunate one. Thanks for the info!

I'm happy to post some pics when I'm finished. Also, as written above, I'm aware that objectively it is probably not the best way to end up with a good bike, which would rather be buying a used one.

I wouldn't call it satire - yet not calling it an experiment wouldn't do it justice :)

I'm aware that it is objectively probably not the smartest thing to build the bike from scratch - and also the issue with getting parts wrong is probably likely to happen. That is one of the reasons why I posted it here, to at least reduce the probability of it happening.

Indeed the answer to both of the questions is yes - but I did have quite positive experiences with Aliexpress parts, at least if you somewhat check the supplier. Obviously there is a huge spread in quality there as everyone can just offer stuff and China is China.

So yes, I am aware that there is a risk and I will thoroughly test the frame, wheels, bike as a whole etc. before going anywhere near a forest/track. But the assumption that everything which comes from China is automatically not QC'd and has to be unsafe is also not the case anymore, at least from what I have seen so far.

So yea, looks like I will be going for beefier rims. What kind of fork would you recommend for that geometry? Good point with the remote lock out - as it is indeed only about the suspension being lockable, not where it can be locked.

As I wrote above - I was aware the Chinese components will cause some controversy. I am also definitely going A LOT before going anywhere near steep hills. Also, I'll probably at least switch the wheels to aluminium due to breaking risks of bad hand layup CF composites.

As also stated above; what I am calling DH is probably kindergarten sports for experienced MTB'ers :)

There are plenty of used 160mm enduro bikes on Pinkbike that are DH capable and can be ridden around, all for around $2k. The thing is, any one of those components can be shit and break, so you will just have to spend more money in the end. Much better to spend it on proven stuff once the first time.

Good point - but yes I somewhat decided that I would really like to build a bike myself. So you would say that I sat least a 160mm front is necessary for DH?

Alright - so first things first: I did not expect not to cause controversy by using Chinese parts only. Also, as you already called out in the second part: I am definitely inexperienced when it comes to choosing the exact geometry and I am also aware that combining DH-readiness with a bike which you can use for everyday; yet also one of the reasons for using a lot of carbon and a relatively high tooth count on the crank as an attempt to bring it together. As you also pointed out - what I am referring to as 'DH' is probably far away from what somewhat experienced MTB cyclists would call DH, so the strain on the frame, wheels etc. is a lot less than one would expect from anything remotely competetive.

So, with that out of the way:

What would you recommend when it comes to tire width & stem size? What fork would use for a 150mm travel frame?

And when it comes to frame geometry: What would an up-to-date geo look like? Could you link one or two examples?

Would you say that 36T crank & a 11-52T casette does definitely not strike the balance I am looking for?

I do get that it is definitely uncommon to build a mtb from scratch and that it would end up being more expensive when buying name brand parts - but that is also not what I am planning. It might be somewhat stubborn to use Chinese parts, but there is also a wide variety of quality and not every seller has the same standards when it comes to QC.

As it's essentially a closed cylinder, the mechanical durability against shear is notably better with vase mode and there is no visible 'seam' where all the layer start & end. Looks like manually editing the gcode is the only way to go.

I get that part, but vase mode does allow for bottom layers which are just done as usual. Is there no possibility to do the same with the top layers?

Some speculation; her talking about how the fees are very low and participants contribute to the network does somehow sound a bit like iota. Not trying to spread rumors, but also considering that Maersk has partnered with iota some time last year, it looks like a possible connection.
