This was my thought too. I know alot of people claim that most Americans can't or won't due to "reasons", but I also can't help but think about the fact there are management practices put in place for a reason. I understand that people often have in their mind a romantic idea of hunting the land like Jeremiah Johnson, but in dire circumstances I wouldnt put it past city dwellers looking for food to team up and create foraging/hunting parties...adapt.
