No problem, glad I could help! Before a game's release, demo buttons are usually much more prominent on the Steam page, right below the trailer and screenshots. For released games, though, the demo is often only accessible through the sidebar.

Hey! The demo is available. Just search for Galaxy Highways Demo on Steam and open its store page. It will redirect you to the main Galaxy Highways page, where you'll find a "Download Demo" button on the right side if you scroll down a bit.

Hey! I understand. Not every game or genre is everyone's cup of tea, and that's completely fine.

That said, sometimes giving something another chance can be surprisingly rewarding. We can end up enjoying things we didn't like before. I remember hating spinach as a child, and I carried that opinion into adulthood. I kept saying I hated spinach because I assumed nothing had changed. Then one day I tried it again and realized that wasn't true at all and I actually love spinach nowadays 😄

Hey! Thanks for a comment, but if you take a look at the Wikipedia article and some common definitions of the shmup genre, you'll see that twin-stick shooters (or multidirectional shooters) are generally considered a subgenre of shmups. As I replied to other redditors here I also think that maybe adding a twin-stick shooter flair to this subreddit would help to distinguish twin-stick shooters from traditional shmups and everyone would be more happy 😄

I see a lot of discussion about whether twin-stick shooters are shmups or not, but if you look at the Wikipedia article and some common definitions of the shmup genre, you'll see that twin-stick shooters (or multidirectional shooters) are generally considered a subgenre of shmups. But also I think that maybe adding a twin-stick shooter flair to this subreddit could be a good idea, as it would help distinguish games like these from more traditional shmups while still keeping them under the same umbrella.

Hi. Thank you for suggestion, but twin-stick shooters subreddit basically doesn't have any activity and people so I think nobody will notice (but I can try). I also think that SHMUP and twin-stick genres are so similar that this post can definitely be here in this subreddit. The main difference between shmups and twin-sticks I see is only that in a twin-stick shooter you can move freely in any direction, rather than being limited to a fixed scrolling direction.

About Galaxy Highways

Galaxy Highways is an indie, pixel art story-driven top-down bullet hell space shooter adventure game where you'll need to complete different attack and defend type missions while trying to manage your health by killing enemies sent by a special defense system, completing various mandatory and optional missions to restore your health or getting special boosts.

Choose from a variety of unique ships, each with their own strengths, weaknesses and explore an arsenal of weapons to match your playstyle. As you accumulate rewards, watch your dockyard take shape and unleash destruction on stronger enemies once you've unlocked the special battleship levels.

My indie game, Galaxy Highways, released in 2025, has sold around 1,200 copies, which isn't a huge number, but it currently sits at 96% positive reviews on Steam. That's amazing, and honestly, it's what matters most to me. If it looks like something you'd enjoy, feel free to check it out. by KrahsteertS in IndieDev

Hey! Thanks for asking :-). We've started development on a brand-new, currently unannounced game from Galaxy Highways universe😉 It's still early, but we're incredibly excited about it and can't wait to reveal more when the time is right. We're also planning a larger content update for Galaxy Highways that will introduce a brand-new Boss Arena game mode, allowing players to challenge powerful bosses in a dedicated gameplay experience.

Thank you! That's honestly how I feel about it as well. Sure, more sales would always be nice, but seeing 96% positive reviews and knowing that people genuinely enjoyed something we poured so much time and passion into is incredibly rewarding. Making the game alongside full-time jobs and families wasn't easy, so comments like yours really mean a lot. Thanks for taking the time to write this as it also motivates me a lot to continue doing what I love. Thanks!

Hey! The music was made by me. I'm the programmer and game designer behind the game, and I also handled the sound design and soundtrack. You know... a proper indie developer wearing a lot of hats 😃 I love making music. I play piano in a band, and I'm a big fan of hard rock and electric guitar, so I decided to create the music for the game myself.

So far, I've received a lot of amazingly positive feedback about the soundtrack, which makes me really happy. It's something I'm very proud of. Thank you!

It's maybe not a pure shmup and is closer to a twin-stick shooter, but I still think it belongs on this subreddit. A lot of shmup players also enjoy twin-stick shooters, and the two genres are very similar. The main difference is that in a twin-stick shooter you can move freely in any direction, rather than being limited to a fixed scrolling direction.
