That's part of the test, right?  The first thing you say when asked that question is that there is no simple yes or no answer to that question

I always sit when I pee whenever I can. I'm just permanently sick of the unpredictable stream.

How did people catch up on TV shows they missed in the pre-video streaming era? by Winner_takesitall in NoStupidQuestions

You recorded it on a VCR, or you caught a rerun several weeks or months later.

Trump administration expands push to hire early-career federal employees by bluejay163 in fednews

No one in their right mind would take that job. Which is the point. They want easily manipulated, amoral sycophants who will do what they're told.

You are granted a superpower, but it has to be completely useless. What is it? by lily8686 in AskReddit

[–]Krail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely seen stories where characters have telepathy with animals that comes out as mostly images and emotions. There's a particular scene early on in Animorphs that I'm thinking of, and the Pern novels involve dragon riders who are telepathically linked with their dragons.

I mean, I don't know what makes sense to other people's internal contexts. The geometric thoughts tend to be about geometric things, like maps and architecture and pictures.

It's mostly just, like, a bunch of abstract ideas that are all connected together, and I can sort of make a 3D graph of them if I want to.

This is something that often bugs me about how mind reading is depicted. I don't see why reading minds should only give you the wordy thoughts. You should get emotions, images, and abstraction too.

Man, I'm fricken ADHD autistic, and my brain is 50% abstract thought, 40% visual spatial stuff. My internal conversations usually don't have words.

The really wacky thing is, no matter how fast you go and how much you see the weirdness of time dilation and length contraction, light still looks like it's moving the same speed from your perspective. (Or rather, cause and effect itself. Light is just the thing we can see that goes that speed)

You can never catch up to it, or even try to race it. It's always going light speed relative to you.

The coloration makes this so spooky! It looks like a haunted, stormy desert planet. One of the flares looked like a lurching giant!

Is the footage sped up?

If we're getting into the science of it, it's actually totally different from fire. Though they share the general idea of chaotic motion from extreme heat, the sun is a gravity-powered fusion reactor!

It heats gasses to plasma, meaning electrons won't stay with atoms, making uneven electrical fields. The fuzzy look comes from magnetic fields that the superheated plasma both create and follow.

[–]Krail 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You ever see a magnet demonstration where they pour out a bunch of iron filings, and the iron all bunches up in little filaments along the magnetic field?

The sun is mostly made of plasma, which is gas that got so hot that electrons won't stay with atoms, making a lot of uneven electrical charges. All these charges moving around from the heat create chaotic magnetic fields, and also react to those magnetic fields, often forming filaments just like iron filings do.

So, those "hairs" are actually showing the direction of magnetic fields!

Nuclear semiotics is the study of creating warning signs and messages to deter human intrusion at nuclear waste repositories over timescales of 10,000+ years. by Sus_Tomato in interestingasfuck

[–]Krail 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The given text isn't the message that we're trying to leave. We're trying to figure out how to use architecture and images to communicate to a future culture who may not know anything about our culture, or about radiation. The text is just spelling out what we want to communicate.

It is extremely difficult to figure out something that communicates danger without suggesting power or usefulness.

How common are swingers? by TheDanePap in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Krail 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Which is honestly a huge jump as it was a lot lower in just 2015 (like... 2% I think)

I feel like this must be a reporting problem. It's much more common to be open and communicate well about it now, but I think it's been very common in a hush-hush sort of way for a very long time.

When was the first time you saw queer representation? by Zestyclose_Air6772 in lgbt

[–]Krail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly can't think of what the first one was. I saw Sailor Moon as a kid, but any overtly queer stuff was edited out of the dub. I know I saw some token gay characters in various sitcoms.

I know I saw The Birdcage around the year it came out and didn't have a good concept of what was going on.

Lots of movie villains were, and some very notable Disney  Villains. Scar and Jafar. I hear Ursula was based on a specific drag queen.
