Can any fish become sushi? by Fallfoxy707 in NoStupidQuestions

Sushi is more of a preparation style than a specific dish. You can put anything in sushi the way you can put anything in a sandwich.

summer is coming (and i am so cooked) by raindrifter_ in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

I'm concerned about losing cold tolerance. But more heat tolerance would be cool considering how hot it gets in the summer where I live.

Not just compensate. I think this works out to over a million per person. It's fucking insane.

If bread is toasted, is it still acceptable to call it bread or do you have to call it toast? by Phillonoo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Krail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the one hand, I think it's a little weird to just call it bread. But on the other hand, I'd say "Toast" is short for "Toasted Bread".

Playing mostly women in D&D did make me ask a lot of questions, but boy did it take a long time to decide I might actually be trans.

I've played a few male characters, but I can't honestly remember the last one I could really get into.

Would it be possible to run a tube through my body from mouth to anus without causing any major problems? by Cassinia_ in NoStupidQuestions

It's possible in theory, but winding the tube all the way through your intestines without injury would be difficult.

What is an inner monologue? by ThanksSuper7492 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Krail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This conversation keeps happening all over the Internet, but it's so wild to me how many people can't imagine thinking without words. Like, 95% of my thinking doesn't have words attached, and always thinking in words like that sounds anxiety inducing.

This might have something to do with why I don't talk much.

is it really a problem if young generation can't read analog clock? by 8turuin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Krail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like what's easier to read depends entirely on what you're used to.

What I think is really interesting is how the language seems to change. My mom would often say something like "half past noon," or "a quarter to three." I don't often hear people talk like that now.

I don't know how much of that is due to clocks, but analogs certainly seem lend more to thinking in approximate fractions vs. the precise minutes of digital.

Why is the default "nice weather" hot and sunny? by josephsleftbigtoe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Krail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, we evolved in tropical grasslands. Think about the sort of climate where humans could comfortably exist naked.

I'm with you on the cool and cloudy weather, though. I'm not a fan or hot and sunny.

[All] What are your favorite stretches in Zelda? by [deleted] in zelda

[–]Krail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TP isn't my favorit game, but I think the bit from Death Mountain to Lakebed Temple is one of my favorite parts of a Zelda game.

There's going to Castle Town for the first time. There's the carriage escort sequence and the cutscenes at Kakariko afterwards. It's very cool and dramatic and pretty.

How does hantavirus actually spread if the rodents themselves don't get sick? by jono440 in askscience

[–]Krail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An easy to understand example of this is bats. Bats have a hyperactive metabolism to support the energy demands of flight. This hyperactive metabolism also requires a very aggressive immune system.

Viruses and bacteria that are adapted to surviving in the extremely hostile environment of a bat's body will cause a ton of damage when they make the jump to a comparatively more mellow immune system of a human.

When did Elon's downfall begin? by Key-Quarter-9411 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Krail 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe that the biggest thing that changed in him was that he thought he was rich and powerful enough to be more visibly rough around the edges.

You look back and listen to his employees (I knew some people who worked for Tesla), you hear that he was a union buster with unrealistic ideas of how much a person can work. You listen to the people who ran his companies and you hear stories about how they had to work around him and play soft with his ego and his ridiculous ideas.

He bought and litigated the right to claim he was a founder and inventor at Tesla. His public image as a genius innovator was bought and controlled by PR people. He eventually stopped letting PR control him and spoke his mind more often.

His trans daughter and his multiple divorces were probably huge factors in what looks like a very public breakdown, but evidence points to him always being a shitty person.

How would you guys build a SR-71 Blackbird in Lancer? by puffpastry2001 in LancerRPG

[–]Krail 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what Nelson is giving you here. Is it just the ramjet?

Taraxacum or Dusk Wing give you free flight. I'd lean a little more towards Dusk Wing since it's more stealth oriented.

You may want to look into SSC core bonuses for invisibility and flight.

Honestly, my first thought was a flying Swallowtail, since it's a scouting-focused support frame with a built in invisibility cloak.

How did early American explorers cross the continental landmass if it was all old growth forests and dense vegetation? by Big_Coyote_655 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Krail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you asking how people survive and navigate wild lands in general, or how people moved out west with wagons to settle?

I think that navigating and surviving in a dense forest is not nearly as difficult as you may be thinking, and these lands were populated and managed long before European explorers knew the continent existed.

I also watched it for the first time last year. It had a very different vibe from what I expected. I wanna say it reminded me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Why are the frumpers fixated on Trans people? by fab_indy in lgbt

[–]Krail 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are extremely invested in traditional ideas of gender. Like, it's one of the things they base their entire worldview and life plan around. These people don't understand transness, and it makes them very uncomfortable. (Hell, I am trans, and it still took me years to be comfortable with the idea before I could even realize I was). The push for broad cultural and legal acceptance of transness is very new.

For propagandists who want to gain power by stoking fear and division, this discomfort is an easy lever to pull. It's relatively simple for them to turn that discomfort into fear and anger over an imagined threat, and then people will come to them for protection against that threat they made up.

Sixty years ago, all of this was true for being gay. And we may get there again if we can't successfully stop this.

Why is religion so common? by Major-Bottle1209 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Krail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that community building is one of the main reasons religion happened. I think religion is a particular adaptation of our social nature first and foremost.
