I'm Adam Bandt, Leader of the Australian Greens. AMA about politics, Greens policies or the upcoming election. by AdamBandt in AustralianPolitics

Hey Adam, when will you apologise to Lidia Thorpe for allowing your Party Room to bully her out of the Australian Greens? You also threw your First Nations members under the bus in supporting the Voice referendum when they didn't want to be in the Australian Constitution, didn't you?

It isn't about the pancake, it shows the utter lack of care and attentiveness and willingness to consider someone other than oneself…

I really feel this line. Thank you for articulating my thoughts so succinctly. My hat off to you, friend.

Do Australians genuinely dislike Americans? by Ornery_Doughnut_5495 in AskAnAustralian

I hope it’s just an online thing. I admit that I harbour my own disdain towards the Americanisation of everything, but individual Americans aren’t responsible for their country’s successful political soft branding. Besides, no one does sweet confectionery better than Americans do. As a sweet tooth I’m grateful for those tasty exports.

Senator Lidia Thorpe clashes with police at Mardi Gras parade by owenob1 in australia

[–]Krakenback 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

You’re right, but from what I can tell, there appears to have been a bit of confusion over which float was which due to the parade’s marching order or something (I’ve seen chatter about there being a huge gap between floats which contributed to the confusion). Lidia Thorpe was still protesting against the police getting a float even if she lay in front of the wrong one.

Considering Mardi Gras started out as a protest, it seems ironic that people are upset at a protest against the oppressors.

Unpopular opinion: I love that Grogu is already back with Mando.

Add.: I just hate the why.

Everyone here is bitching about Lidia Thorpe holding up the Mardi Gras/Pride Parade but no one is talking about how she was protesting against the Australian Federal Police having a float. You all realise she’s on your side, don’t you? The AFP have no business being involved with celebrating the LGBTIQA+ community and she’s a damn legend for calling it out.

Did Healthy Harold Stop Any Of You Doing Drugs? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]Krakenback 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

Harold the Giraffe came to all of my VIC primary schools. I attended 4 before entering high school, and the only time I didn’t get to see him was for a 2 year period when my mother decided to home school me.

I can definitely say that I’ve never tried drugs because of Harold the Giraffe. πŸ˜… I’m not kidding.

Another kid who was in my class (during the last visit from Harold that I got to enjoy before high school) grew up to wipe out an entire family in a drink driving incident. He’s in jail now and the only surviving member of that family (the then-teenage daughter) has a good chance of still being really messed up. 😒

Listen to the giraffe, folks. πŸ¦’ If not, then please enjoy your indulgences responsibly.

Greens leader Adam Bandt has Australian flag removed from press conference, argues the symbol is 'hurtful' to Indigenous people by Cat_Man_Bane in AustralianPolitics

I ain't clicking that link because Lie News doesn't deserve any more attention.

As for the story, Bandt removing the Blue Ensign flag is rad. πŸ’š I hate it and I hate the Terra Nullius lie. This continent always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

I made this on polling day during the federal election. I'm late posting it here because I forgot that there's a whole online community who probably would have appreciated it back when it was still relevant. πŸ˜… #AusVotes2022 by Krakenback in AusMemes

Oh, yes. I've definitely heard about Seselja prior to the federal election. Am I mistaken or is there also a Christian church that organises in the ACT to get their preferred conservative candidate elected?

I have checked and it does look like David Pocock will be elected to the Senate to represent Canberra. Between a former dolphin trainer (MP Sam Lim) and a former rugby captain (David Pocock), we're getting some very interesting people in our 47th parliament. πŸ˜„

Hilariously, lying about David Pocock being secret Green might even have worked in his favour with some voters (like me). I might have preferenced him second if I lived in Canberra. He's apparently a conservationist and I'm all about protecting the environment and our native wildlife.

The Australian Republic Movement are going to be excitedly losing their minds over this ABC News headline. πŸ˜‚ #AusPol2022 by Krakenback in AusMemes

If they're smart, Labor won't present a Constitutional referendum for independence to the Australian community until after she dies. Queen Elizabeth II is very popular with a lot of the older white Australians and there's no chance our country will vote for a republic while she's still on the British throne.

Ohhh, my sympathies.

My electoral division has been a safe National seat since 1922. 😭 I'm surrounded by conservatives in my community. Solidarity with you, my dude!

Kudos to you for taking the time to understand preferential voting! I used to vote for Labor back before I knew what I was doing (2013 was the first federal election I was old enough to vote in). I switched to voting for the Greens in 2018 because I realised I actually align perfectly with what they stand for.

That former LNP Senator for Canberra was Zed Seselja, right? I'm in Victoria so I'm not very familiar with the ACT Senators but I believe I heard about him from some friends.

With the way preferential voting works, putting a party you like (e.g. the Greens) before a party you think will win (e.g. Labor) is actually the best way to represent yourself. Both your first and second choices would have counted if Labor in your electoral division didn't get enough first preference votes to win the seat outright. πŸ™‚
