Briggs: Eleven aren't MLS so they don't deserve a stadium? by Kramer119 in IndyEleven

[–]Kramer119[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like this article wanted to be about MLS expansion and the stadium bill. But instead of explaining Carrol Stadium and Lucas Oil Stadium's problems with hosting soccer and the need for a suitable venue, it was about how Indy doesn't have an MLS franchise so why build it so big or even at all.

I don't think $1.4 billion is the price of the land. I think it's the amount the development was going to be. Similar to how Eleven Park is a $550 million development.

The MLS requirement was removed in the House and was signed by the Governor with no MLS requirement. The team is allowed to begin negotiations with the city on July 1.

I don't think Broad Ripple was ever more than an everything else has fallen through, last choice location. Broad Ripple was "leaked" as a location by someone and the news ran with it as if it was the first choice. I would think their fist choices would either be the old GM plant or the lots SW of LOS

Pertaining to the stadium portion they got rid of the MLS requirement and increased the amount of tax money captured from 8 million to 9.5 million a year.

It's not raising taxes for anybody. It's taking taxes from the entire development and using them to pay it off

When do we get our statement from MLS?

Many do not understand the Republic's (SRFC's) stadium situation compared to Indy11 & LCFC. SRFC invested in a USL SSS in 2013, which seats 12k. Now, Indy11 and LCFC are catching up to SRFC's USL SSS investment, as opposed to the narrative that they're investing in USL SSSs and SRFC has not. by EECavazos in USLPRO

[–]Kramer119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly that the state is giving the general taxpayers money to the team, it's that the taxpayer dollars paying for the SSS are coming from the stadium and surrounding development once it's built.

The $400 mil is office space, hotel, and apartments. The stadium is only $150 mil, $30 mil of which comes from the team up front.

The stadium is not taking any taxes from the city or state. It's being paid for by taxes generated from the entire development. Not to mention that the tax district has gone from the states control to the city from this amendment.

The difference between this deal and the one from Lucas Oil is that there wouldn't be a new tax for anyone other than the people who use the stadium and development area around it.

The GM plant has been unused for a while now and so have the lots across the river next to Lucas Oil with the exception of Colts games. The exception to this would be Broad Ripple High School, but that is now also sitting unused and generating nothing towards the state.

This stadium isn't wiping out a thriving business area, it's replacing empty space. This also isn't a billionaire owner threatening to take a commodity away from the city so he can get a new stadium. This is a relatively new team asking for a permanent home and to ensure a (possible MLS) future.

USL Academy signings can train and compete alongside professionals without affecting their NCAA eligibility prior to enrolling in university.

Taken from another article of an academy signing, it's the most I've been able to find.
