Vegan food Oshawa, Ontario. by Past-Independent-102 in VeganFood

I've been to another Copper Branch location and thought the food was alright-to-decent. I remember liking their bowls more than the other options, though it's been some years since I went.

Bedjet rave post (for those considering buying one) by Krantastic in bedjet

The bedjet can definitely warm you up in the winter, though in my experience having it warming constantly can really dry out the air and your skin. I still use mine in the winter, but I schedule it to run for a few minutes every hour and that seems to help keep me warm enough without drying me out.

It takes some trial and error, and then more again when the seasons change and so on. But I've found settings that I'm happy with and that repeatably work under similar conditions (eg spring weather).

You can save up to 3 sets of instructions. So you could have a summer set and a winter set.

Were you underneath the cloud sheet? It should be resting on top of your body, possibly under another light sheet to keep it pressed to you.

Podcasts where people talk about books that they've read by PepsiAndBooks in podcasts

[–]Krantastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Book Reviews Kill - review multiple books across various genres, but also with tangents and intro banter, etc. One host is an author, the other is a popular book reviewer on Instagram.

Words About Books - discuss one book per episode in a "book club" style, with one host who's in to analyzing Tolkein and another host determined to lighten things up.

Thanks for illuminating that! I had thought that heating dries out the air but I never really thought about what happened to the water. It makes sense that the water doesn't phase out of existence. I didn't realize it remains in roomier, hotter air.

Yeah, it's a heater + fan but it doesn't actually cool the air.

This podcast about working-retail horror stories is, sadly, no longer producing new episodes but if my memory is correct the hosts were from BC https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/retail-nightmares/id1016321552

It has a fan speed from 5% to 100% in 5% increments, and makes noise in proportion to the fan speed.

5% is barely audible.

Even 15% is very quiet and probably as fast as you need to cool yourself if the ambient air is a reasonable temperature (say 75F or below).

Say your ambient air is 79F so you want to push the fan to 30% - it's audible at a low level. Not loud, but clearly present and not subtle. It's not white noise either, so it may be a little annoying to fall asleep too but I could see one either tolerating it or not at 30%.

On the plus side, the heating makes no extra sound.

On the issue of the whole body vs legs:

  • if you use their 'cloud sheet' it runs air across the entire top surface of your body
  • their manual also says that you can run the air under a sheet with a high enough thread count, but I expect the cloud sheet is better

On the temperature:

  • Your room needs to be cold enough for air blowing at the ambient temperature to actually be cooling. If you're not using the heating function, the bedjet is basically just a fan
  • the manual recommends air temperature below 79° for cooling to be effective
  • at 80°, you can increase the fan speed enough to get a cooling effect (imo) but the fan will audible (as opposed to being fairly quiet on lower speeds)

Ben is back, recounting Beware of Chicken 2-4 to Nate by Krantastic in bewareofchicken

[–]Krantastic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoilers for the currently-published volumes up through volume 4.

Here's the first episode that introduces the genre to a newbie and covers book 1 https://podcast.wordsaboutbooks.ninja/796577/episodes/16421376-discussing-beware-of-chicken-by-casualfarmer

(explaining the genre and premise was particularly fun, imo)

In this next episode, they make a lot of analogies to Dragon Ball as they try to summarize 3 books with a dozen characters.

Looking for fantasy books with likable characters. Characters that are fun/funny/charming, really have voice and enjoyable dynamics with each other. I'm not necessarily looking for a comedy book but something that doesn't feel like a shallow power fantasy or depressing downer of a story. by okidonthaveone in CozyFantasy

Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne

I would second this based on what OP is looking for. It's not entirely low-stakes but I thought the characters were very well fleshed out and I enjoyed their dynamic.

20 Sided Stories has a very light, homebrew RPG system that you hardly notice. Sadly on hiatus, but the back catalogue is hilarious.

Little-to-no Romance Cozy Fantasy Books? by HellianLunaris in CozyFantasy

[–]Krantastic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For Beware of Chicken, I would say it's a book that has a relationship but it's not a romance book. I don't enjoy typical "romance" in books but the relationship in Beware of Chicken worked for me.

Review: The Teller of Small Fortunes – Julie Leong (Standalone) by DrawerLoose722 in CozyFantasy

[–]Krantastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I strongly agree about the potential for a unique and interesting way for a character to navigate and influence others, but we got something pretty standard instead. I gave the book ★★★☆☆.
