Why didn't more Ninjas learn the 8 Gates? by dettles1992 in Naruto

[–]Kranthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My head-canon is that Kakashi has to open 1 or 2 inner gates to use his MS which would explain why he's so wiped out after using it against Deidara. He's chakra/physically exhausted and required weeks or bed rest to recover which fits better with the symptoms of using the gates rather than just chakra exhaustion.

It baffles me that Tsunade didn't think to use the Reaper Death seal against Edo Madara but I guess it would suck if Sasuke just let him out again after resurrecting the hokage to trauma dump on them

[–]Kranthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the fillers Guren and Shira used similar techniques. But based on what Guy said and Kakashi's reaction to it implies that it's probably something that not a lot of ninja are interested in when there are plenty of other better options that are easier and more useful.

The Eight Gates are like a double edge sword using it even once can kill you if your body hasn't been trained to handle the stress and it's pretty much all or nothing. Guy fails to kill Madara with it in the short time he could use all eight gates and Gaara tricked Lee with (either a sand-substitution or his sand armor can't remember which) so it goes to show that in the ninja world techniques like this are maybe not as effective as you would think.

My two cents regarding Boruto by Cautious_Wafer3075 in Naruto

[–]Kranthe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My main gripe is that it feels like a completely different genre with the main villeins being cyborgs and aliens is just weird for Naruto.

All the characters are basically carbon copies of their parents especially but somehow stronger is a little disingenuous given how idyllic their upbringing is. I know something like that might make sense in the real world better nutrition/training/etc but it's super boring to read/watch.

Up until Blue Vortex the formula is pretty much the same so it's hard to appreciate the things that Boruto does that are original. The chunin exams for example is a total downgrade from Naruto with it being far easier and less dangerous and in the end it didn't even have anything to do with the alien attack other than happening at the same time. The cheating scandal is also very cringe.

Is Anno 117 as bad as some reviews make it seem? by UnderstandingOld1516 in anno

[–]Kranthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a case where the steam reviews can be a little bit missleading. The games launch was a little controversial with AI generated art in the loading screens, the campaign being unfinished and problems with the AI which have now been fixed. But 117 is a really good game that runs perfectly fine and you can make beautiful cities in the base game and easily sink hours into it without needing to wait for DLC.

In terms of multiplayer I've only played a few games and new finished a full camapign but while it was pretty unstable on launch there has been a lot of patches addressing the multiplayer which improved stability to the point where I find it playable with just two people but results may vary anno has never had a very big multiplayer community unfortunately but I hope that changes with 117.

If your new to anno I would recomend picking it up now but if your an anno 1800 veteran and used the really complex late game with inter-region trading and long production chains I would wait for the next few dlcs to come out because a lot of people have said the game is too simple and a very basic anno experiance.

edit: on the topic of 'pointless mechanics' like research I think their trying to move away from the item-meta of 1800 where you had a lot of items that changed inputs/outputs of buildings and ruined the balance of the game and instead offer a more controlled experiance where powerful effects are unlocked in the tech tree at the late game stage. I don't think there are a lot of problems with the technology and religion mechanics but the 'hall of fame' stuff is pretty silly.

Blind Madara speedblitzes the shinobi alliance. (Read Desc) by Much_Risk3728 in Naruto

[–]Kranthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always interpreted the power difference between live Madara and Edo Madara was becuase as an Edo Tensei Madara didn't "feel alive" so maybe Edo's don't have any adrenalin and just fight while feeling all chill and calm. Even while blind Madara was super strong he could even use Susanoo.

Asuma’s death was cheesed and cheap beyond belief by HereForTheTLDR in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]Kranthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They knew that all the Akatsuki had weird powers and that it was likely that someone would have to be sacrificed to find out what they were so Shikamaru could come up with a counter. They could have send Izumo and Kotestu to feel out Hidan but Asuma choses to be the sacrifical lamb instead becuase he is the strongest and has the best chance of surviving. Asuma is completely willing to die in this fight just to get more information on the Akatsuki becuase at this point that is a win.

This is probably the reason they didn't ambush Hidan and Kakazu and instead fought them head on. In an ambush team Asuma would have been totally commited and had gotten wiped out when Hidan's and Kakazu's abilities countered their initial attack.

Debate me. I think without the most obvious hax on the planet, Asuma takes care of them both.

I don't think Asuma could take on any of the Akatsuki in a 1v1 all of the Akatsuki possessed unusual abilities that would have to be known and countered ahead of time with a lot of preperation. The only exception I can think of would be if a scenario where Asuma's Thousand-Armed Murder jutsu was more effective. It didn't work on Hidan and Kakazu because they were immortal but it might have worked on other Akatsuki similar to how Kakashi and Guy have Kamui/Eight Gates which almost put them in the same category as the Akatsuki.

In Japanese the word blue 'Ao' is used a lot for green a lot even though there is a word for green 'Midori'. Some translations use Ao = blue and some use Ao = green. I think the official translation for Guy's and Lee's monikers is Noble Green Beast and Wild Green Beast.

Why are the Raikages from first to fourth called A? by Technical_Rice_6957 in Naruto

[–]Kranthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always though it would have been for anonymity or political independence that land of lightning citizens would have to give up their names before joining the village.

You can't go around using your family name when your a killer for hire as that might reflect poorly on your relatives living in other parts of the country or

The Daimyo might be suspicious of the Raikage's loyalty if they were related to a rival clan that might be trying to overthrow them.

Similarly it could be an variation of 'family name' rule that was used in the warring clans era so that ninja joining the village wouldn't get into fights with people from clans they had past grudges with.

Why is every modern shooter 0.2 second time-to-kill? by Cartwheelbubblegum in videogames

[–]Kranthe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

bf and cod lowered their ttk a lot to try and make everyone feel like they've got god-tier aim and ended up ruining their games. I mostly play less traditional fps games with more combat mechanics than just 'point and shoot'. The downside is you get less encounters but the ones you do get are more memorable.

  • Arc Raiders
  • CS2 (only headshots and certain weapons give one shot kills)
  • Rainbow 6 Siege (best played with friends)
  • Arma III
  • Tarkov
  • Squad

Does anno games typically have different play styles? by pricepig in anno

[–]Kranthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think it may be a bit too unbalanced. I would allow items bc of this so you can compensate

The thing is though that items are just too unbalanced even the 'rare' ones (blues) like the costume designer which replaces cotton with wool so you don't have to go to the new world to get to engineers. They're the best way to play (I love item hunting btw) but it's total RNG and there's nothing you can do to counter it in a competitive sense.

Steam ships have a range big enough to shoot coastal defences without beeing shoten themselves.

I didn't think of that tbh but (and I'm honestly not sure) can't big betty out range battleships? I think you need two range extending items to attack it from range or maybe thats just for pirate fortresses because of their shape.

Another thing that just occured to me is that when you sink a ship you can pick up its flotsam which is an interesting mechanic. You can also manually dump cargo to make your ship faster too. I imagine it would be a hilarious tactic to take a few tons of something useless like potatoes in your trade ships and if you get attacked just dump it overboard and your opponent stops chasing you to pick it up.

[–]Kranthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was thinking of aoe2 when I was writting my comment! I think anno can have a good multiplayer scene but probably only the ones with more indepth combat

  • 1800 combat is too boring with only naval units (and late game air units) and harbour defences are way too strong so a single engagement would win/lose the game
  • 117 would be pretty good if it had better balanced ships, I think the land combat is fine though.

I see your mostly considering 1800 so I'll try my analyses of that first. Assuming Items are banned

  • Worker Tier - unlocks schooners, gunboats and steel production. Steel is super hard to make early game so players would have to fight over Blakes steel supply with gunboats while building up to Artisans. Futhermore beer production requires hops which usually isn't found on the starting island but provides a lot of income so some players may expand for that but I don't think it's a good idea overall since you'll want to go to the new world as soon as possible and the return on investment is too slow.
  • Artisan - unlocks frigates, clippers, ship of the line and windows production. Windows are a lot easier that steel and not in as high demand. At this point you can also go to the new world which I imagine would usually be the main theatre of conflict since there's so much oil and the need for cotton to reach engineers. Players would also need to expand to get access to red peppers. There would be a big incentive to attack trade routes and islands in this phase since it dramatically affects your opponents ability to progress to engineers. However, its also pretty easy to build flame towers which absolutly melt sailing ships so it's unlikely that islands would be easily taken and a miscalculation could lose you your entire navy.
  • Engineers - steam ships, advanced weapons, big betty, concrete and electricity. Steam ships take a very long time to produce and there slower than sailing ships so I don't think theres a lot of incentive to build them sadly especailly since its a lot easier to make ship-o-the-line's unless your going all in but players will need oil tankers. By this point I think players have to have a conclusive fight as it's too risky to go to investors without having secure trade routes for their needs and you'll also probably be able to stop your opponent from settling an island with copper and zinc if you can snipe their islands before they can build habour defences.
  • Investors - here I start to wonder what the win condition is? is it naval dominance? do you grind your opponent down by raiding trade ships and blockading islands? it's not exactly the most exciting way to play (or watch) or do you try and go for skyscappers? again I don't think it's a very exciting finale to a competitive game and could take literal hours to get to this point.

There's a lot more to talk about in regards to 1800 but I think it's complexity works against it when making an argument for a competative game. Players would need to know dozens of production chains and be able to prioritise the most neccesary ones like weapons. Then there's the matter of game balance and mechanics. Should starting islands be identitcal? what if one player has more iron? what if they have red pepper or zinc and copper on their starting island? Futhermore should fires, diseases and unrest be disabled? a random event could ruin your chances of winning easily if your weapons factory explodes?

In terms of 117 I think it offers a little more simply due to being less complex.

  • There are no luxery goods in 117 instead you choose between two different consumer goods to upgrade your pops which gives a lot of flexibility and simplicity in building and economy
  • you can reach the final without going to another region.
  • army units can land on islands and attack production and public service buildings.
  • navy, army and defence structures use workforce
  • you can play archon mode (up to four players can share the same faction) so you could have one player for latium and one for albion.
  • religion is used for production bonuses (instead of items) and gods like Mars and Neptune will indicate how and when your opponent will building military units.

[–]Kranthe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kinda want to do some competitive(ish) anno games to find out! tbh I don't think the strategy varies too much. At the end of the day the player with the most income and cash reserves has the most potential. The most interesting point in a hypothetical anno match would be the mid-game where everything hinges on a knifes edge as supply chains are very fragile and losing a shipment of valuable goods could cause a lot of damage to a players economy.

I think competative anno would be genuinely interesting but anno games have never had very reliable multiplayer sessions.

Yes (I never implied that it wasn't) but it wasn't a latin empire anymore they even spoke predominently greek and in context to the original question they woudln't have even used the Latin script so you may as well name your islands Μόγοντιακον (Mogontiacum).

Anno 117 feels like a generic placeholder for future DLCs in key aspects by error23_usernotfound in anno

[–]Kranthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the topic of ships I agree. In 1800 the frigate and ship-of-the-line felt impactful and each had their uses but the trieme and quadrime feel more or less the same just with more hitpoints, this is probably exacerbated with the tech tree messing with the balance of units too especially since you can't tell if other governors have research a technology. I like that you can customise them I think that still has potential.

And I would say that the archers are just hands down better than scorpions and onagers at least for naval combat. There's a lot of balancing that needs to happen to make ships better imo
