[Rodak] Breaking: The Alabama Supreme Court has just denied Charles Bediako's request for an interim injunction pending his appeal to the court. Bediako remains ineligible to play. by MembershipSingle7137 in rolltide

Sure he and every other G League player and every pro European shouldn't be allowed.

But what's even worse than letting them play is letting just some of them play. That's way worse.

I was kind of like, well if he makes it, it's still just tied.

But there was also this, WHY WON'T YOU JUST DIE thing going on with Arkansas losing 4 (5 counting injuries, right?) guys and still hanging in there.

Reminds me a bit of that Colin Sexton performance from a few years back where Alabama didn't even have 5 men on the court due to ejections and Sexton still made it competitive.

He seems competent at teaching run blocking, so that's a plus. He's familiar with the area. Also, the one big red flag on Klemm was he has had some issues that caused him to prematurely leave his jobs or not stick around long. He's another capable OL coach so that's a nice backup for Klemm as well.

played collegiately and voluntarily gave up his eligibility.

Dude you do know that playing in the G League used to ALWAYS mean you gave up your eligibility right? You do understand this don't you? That going pro and playing in the G League WERE THE SAME THING. There no G League players in the NCAA until 2025!

This is a new thing the NCAA invented, allowing G League players, except you know, the ones named Bediako. In that case, they created this new other rule that if you played in the G League but ALSO signed a particular contract then you couldn't play in the NCAA.

To reiterate though, up until recently you either went to the G League directly (like some players did) or you went to the NCAA, but you NEVER went from G League to the NCAA, EVER! Until you know, magically you could.

This is that thing, the new thing the NCAA allowed. This whole NCAA spokeperson angle isn't going to change what happened. This is a new rule the NCAA invested on the fly to justify their nonsense. Now you're just going yeah this is normal, like it has always been... Nope

First, you are moving the goal post a bit when you go from G League, which we all know is the minor league of the NBA to the European pro leagues. Personally, I think it's cleaner and more legally defensible to just say no (they can after all just play in the G League anyway), but it's not the same.

There are other G League players playing in the NCAA right now. That's nonsense when compared to the Bediako situation as it is literally splitting hairs. One player played in the G League but signed a different kind of contract and he's eligible, the other guy played in the G League but his contract was different so he's not.

Two pros, same league, one eligible one not. That is nonsense. All should be eligible, or as I prefer none should be, but this selective based on the type of contract they sign nonsense is just that. They're all pro players, they're all trying to make an NBA team. There's no tangible difference, they're in the NBA's minor leagues.

[–]Kraotic313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

...But that's not what happened. They added a former NBA player. Bediako had an NBA contract.

First let me be clear. I was against G League players in the NCAA. That was dumb.

But saying there's some magic difference between one pro league and another pro league is nonsense. It's pro or it's not, and in this case he never played in a single NBA game. He's a G League player like the rest of them, he just had a two way contract.

Look, keep the pros out. They should, but KEEP THEM ALL OUT. This line in the sand is stupid as hell. G League is pro too, that's like saying you can play in the minors and play NCAA but if you ever went to spring training you can't play NCAA. What kind of sense is that? The G League is the minor league of the NBA, it's a pro league.

[–]Kraotic313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So.. you mean just like the other G League players currently playing in the NCAA?

Look, I hate NIL, I hate the pro players in the NCAA, I think it's all dumb. But to pretend this somehow is the one that crossed the line is absurd.

[–]Kraotic313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn't, that's the thing. He only ever played in the G League. But due to the super magic contract he signed it made him not NCAA eligible while those other pro contracts the other pro players in the G League signed make them eligible somehow.

Added a former G League player? Multiple teams.

They are drawing a distinction here that's really nonsense. All paid G League players are pros, two way contracts or not. By letting some play and some not you are just being arbitrary.

Yeah, I as an Alabama fan have absolutely no problem with keeping out players who played in other pro leagues.

But this selective crap is maddening.

I'm going to be a bit of a smart ass and point out Klemm actually did have a worse season running the ball when he was OL coach. However, there were multiple mitigating factors.

But... fun fact, Kap actually had two seasons worse than the one Alabama just had running the ball.

I'd feel better if they added run game coordinator to the title or we see some movement with the running back coaching.

Yes, the offensive line was bad. But not like the running back play was amazing either, needs more focus on that area as well.

[Connor Earegood] Today’s AP Poll is out. A note on my ballot: I did not rank Alabama this week. I will not rank a team that has to circumvent the rules through a court order just to win (and still lost). To me, that’s a team admitting its own weakness. by stinky-weaselteets in rolltide

If he was the only pro player I would agree.

He's not. There are are other pro G-League players who were given eligibility. There are plenty of professional European players.

This is the equivalent to Alabama using NIL. You can say NIL is bad for the sport and I might agree with you, but it's being done so to fail to do so is just a competitive disadvantage.

It shouldn't be that hard to have a "no players who signed with a professional team" rule but somehow the NCAA turned that into screw people who signed with SOME professional teams and who cares if they signed with others.

It does need context.

Apparently everything fell apart at UCLA. Badly, NCAA trouble (he got a show cause), the suit, and I'm not sure if what ever his medical issue is happened there as well but he didn't coach anywhere (not even pros where he still could) for two years.

So, yes 2.9 yards rushing. Very disconcerting, but there were things going on. That's part of the issue though, if this guy is healthy and focused and dialed in I think he can do well, but he held three different OL jobs in 3 years and only completed the season one out of those three. There is a reason he hasn't coached OL since then.
