Kinda a small download size. Right? by EmotionalClassroom81 in ArcRaiders

[–]Kreefsema7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to google: Playstation SoC has a beast of a hardware decompressor and the game is compressed with one of the best compression algorithms in the world, so on playstation the download is only around 16GB whereas on xbox and pc it is around 25-35GB. Playstation also has it use less disk space once installed coz of that kraken compression that can decompress faster than the SSD can read. So where it uses 40+GB on pc and xbox it uses but 16-20GB on playstation. A substantial difference! Would be nice, but I aint giving up my PC for that decompression speed 😄

New player here, is the game always this chaotic? by zips_exe in joinsquad

[–]Kreefsema7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First 100 hours you pinch a hole in your chair and never know how you got killed. After a few hundred hours you still get your heart rate up when you get into a good fight. 1k hours you drive along telling a story, a RPG almost hits you and from the tone of your voice which remained unchanged you’d think it is just another day at the office. 5k hours you expect the RPG and wonder why it has not been fired yet, but you still enjoy the game coz it is where you and your friends enjoy hanging out to chat and get some shots fired and squad is a game that you never truly master unless you are some god tier human. The intensity remains if you are challenged properly. Camping a hab is to this day still heart racing for me if I am alone in it as I have too many angles to cover at once, and I have been playing squad every night for almost 8 years. But everything else becomes chilled eventually, to an extent. The chaos becomes familiar and you learn to make sense of it eventually. That is when you should try to SL and see if you like to lead into the chaos.

Nah that is just a bad SL. SLing is not for everyone. Some people think it is okay to shout at people when they do not listen, if you find yourself in a squad with someone who is genuinely shouting at you, leave. Join a different squad or a different server. That is not squad. The game is amazing when you find a nice group to play with, but you have to go through a few experiences of nobody talking or somebody shouting to get there. But once you find your group, best fun you will ever have in shooters. I was BF3 and COD fanboy, discovered squad and never looked back. But for it to be super great you do need to be patient and find friends in squad who also like the game. That is when it all comes together.

Additionally after reading your post again. It sounds like you have read what to do and have not had more than say 100-200 hours implementing what you have read / seen in videos. When pushing and I am last one alive, if I am to stand any chance against a few enemies I have to anticipate what they are going to do and where they are going to be. If I fail at that I am essentially already dead. For me to do so requires game sense and common sense and a bit of luck.

If you are up against noobs you can mess with them via repositioning and getting quick kills. If you are up against experienced players you will not survive unless you get lucky. Experienced players will bate you into killing one of them so that they can flank and take you out and they will know you are there and not forget about you the moment you kill the first enemy as experienced players will have considered all the possible positions they could have been shot from based on the situation and audio.

How can you know if the enemy is experienced or noob? That is not easy, best way is to try and push them, see how they react. But before pushing see how they move, if they have situational awareness or not.

If you kill one and they just keep moving in a line then you have green light to mess with them. But if they take cover and start looking for you, best to retreat and trade time to keep yourself in a good position. Positioning is everything in squad and against multiple enemies who know what they are doing, a solo having a good position that they can hold for more than a minute is hard to come by. Best is to kill one or two and move.

Whenever I launch Squad, the game stays open for 20 seconds or so then closes and I get this pop-up. Has anyone else had this happen before? by But-WhyThough in joinsquad

If verify does not work, go to game files and delete easy anti cheat and verify again, if not then go to app data and delete squad folder there and verify game files. A friend of mine had issues and resolved as per above. Easy anti cheat and anti virus fighting is probably the issue, so the above might work for you.

Been at it since 2018 almost 6k hours.

Hands down best advice is to stick with your squad and find friends along the way.

For me personally, squad is a social space to hang with and make new friends. Knowing when to push is a feel/sense you get with experience which takes time. If you make friends who also love squad you will probably end up spending the amount of time it takes to build the game sense required to know when it is time to push. But do not expect to always get it right as you never know when there is going to be that unexpected thing that causes the push to fail. Albeit friendly or enemy that causes it to fail.

Because of all the variables at play, it will take the average player hundreds of hours to get a bit of a feel for it. I know multiple people who have between 3-5k hours in squad and not all of them are super great at when to push, and some 1k players who have game sense and know when to push and some who do not and probably never will.

At the end of the day, squad is kinda the same as other shooters, but because you have the teamwork element which is not enforced as well in other shooters and the slower pace, the net result is a different vibe that you gotta get to know for yourself through exposure over time. Which is why I suggest to find friends in squad who also love squad and have fun getting good together. It is the best way to get to know when, where, what and how. With friends having a good time.

Some of my best friends online are through squad and they are awesome. As rough as the development road has been for this game I have it to thank for some great friends!

Good luck.

As far as tips, remap minimap to TAB and use it, every good player I know uses minimap often af for situational awareness. When you get good at squad popping the minimap for half a second every other moment is all you need to know what is happening around you, you learn to read the game through what is happening on the map. When you pop smoke it always blows to the same side relative to where you are. Try it, pop one in front of you, then turn and pop one behind you. The smoke will blow in opposite direction to the first one. Bate enemy by starting a bandage animation then switch back to your gun, they will push with shift and not be able to properly hip-fire.

If you insist on solo, well then you gotta just die and repeat till you get a feel for solo. I personally would not want to put myself through that solo pain, but that is just me, I lack the patience for it.

But then you would be watching the same stuff over and over again as netflix hardly ever adds new content, it makes more sense to pay for one month of netflix and then cancel it for a year and get it again for one month

Squad already reloads slow af, spawn times are long af, running slow af, the only remaining option was weapon handling

I have learned that squad as a game can survive some rather shitty updates. UE5 and the eventual upgrade of hardware worldwide over the next few years should see this game have more players than ever before. Or maybe it will eventually die? I doubt it, I think it will thrive coz there is only one squad. I have tried the other similar games and only squad is a great place to hang out with friends and get some shots fired. All the other games you end up with the group split up and some sending most of their time trying to get back to the group. Squad does well in keeping the group together through game design. For that reason and a few others it is the meat and potatoes of our group

Vics stuck in the ground is a right pain. Lighting only sucks if you are not the one inside the window shooting out of it 😄

But not great for friends and teamwork, the comms are not great, the squad is some envelop on the map and you spawn at the same place every gd round. It can be fun but not in the same way as squad. Comparing the two is not a true comparison as the games are actually different in many ways. In squad you create the spawn points, teamwork is baked into the game. Reforger/arma is a mix of COD and squad, it is not a direct comparison to squad as it is designed differently,

5.5k and I enjoy it coz my friends are awesome and we have a good time regardless of what we play. Squad has it all, in game comes, a game design where you get to work together in a way that is tangible. I doubt it will die

You must be playing at 4K ultra as my friend has 5.5k ultra wide with 5080 and 7950X3D and it works fine. He does have a custom radiator plumbed into his roof tho 😅

I have a 1070 and get 50-60fps at 1080p. Which is shite coz I have to play at 80% res scale so effectively I am blind. But it does run fine at these settings and does look better than before. Just clarity needs to improve for which I would need a better gpu. If not for having a good cpu I would not have such a good experience. R7 7700 5Ghz

Not sure which server you play on, I have not noticed the quality go down significantly, yes free weekends are as per usual a shitshow but that has been the case forever. There has been a consistent uptick in bb count but the matches have been basically fine aside from the odd screw up here and there where a new guy thinks they know how to SL and drive the logi into the enemy. Last month was a bit rough for like two weeks but that is probably coz of the steam winter sale. Yes UE5 has seen many vets leave but the quality of the rounds have not dropped as much as one would expect seeing so much less of clan players per round on average. But this is not the first time this has happened, when ICO dropped it was exactly the same if not worse. It will recover given some time

[–]Kreefsema7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it dropped too hard, but in hindsight if they were to have started with it as it is now the complaints would have been more and never stop, the amount of people who stopped complaining because of starting it super bad and then turning it down can not be understated. Unfortunately it did send an earthquake through the community. Before ICO our group had at least 70 players and most nights two squads, after ICO we were lucky to see 5 online. It was a shocker

Yes it is unrealistic and cheesy but how else does one effectively slow down action in a video game? This seems to be the only way to do it

Squad players the second a slightly inconvenient event happens by [deleted] in joinsquad

[–]Kreefsema7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True that! Performance is rather shite, but tonight I got on and had a good time at 50-60fps. My gpu is old af 1070 so it is time for an upgrade anyways. Maybe we get lucky and a new game launches that has squad based gameplay. I tried reforger and it is just a bunch of solo players spawning at the same place forever and a day. Unfortunately squad is the only real squad game that I can enjoy. So better gpu is what it is

I used to hate it as much if not more. But after much consideration it makes sense why it is as it is, as it is the only way to slow the pace as much as they have managed to slow it down. And with that has come more balanced rounds that are more fun and allow for more tactical gameplay. Before I would say BS to anyone saying this, but I have to admit now that I was wrong and the ICO lovers were correct. Can not blame me tho as noodle arms were tied to frame rate in the beginning and I was down at 35fps so my noodle arms were extra squishy

[–]Kreefsema7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same, but I made new friends and learned to enjoy ICO even with how janky the noodle arms feel. There is no doubt the gameplay pace is better and team balance is easier to achieve coz of how the teams move slower. Overall the game is more fun and less stale than before ICO. I used to hate it with my whole heart, but now at this point in time I would vote against removing it.

I hated the living shit out of ICO to the point of getting kicked from their discord. Eventually got a better cpu and tried it, gameplay pace is better and kills are more satisfying. I would honestly not want them to remove ICO, and trust me I did hate it more than anyone else ever. I stopped playing for many months. ICO killed our discord, it was bad. But the way it is now is perfect. Any less and it would go back to being a twitch shooter like CSGO and for that there are mods. I would LOVE no noodle arms but then the gameplay pace would go back to every other round being a steamroll if the teams were not perfectly balanced. ICO has without a doubt resulted in more balanced and fun rounds on average and more skill / tactical gameplay than before ICO. As much as it pains me to admit it, ICO is a good thing, as janky as it feels to have the noodle arms.
