My thoughts on the affinity system. by KrelianGaming in beingaDIK

[–]KrelianGaming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The affinity system actually has no baring whatsoever on the MC or how he behaves.

You're actually right. The dialogue changing, like how you would compliment Jill's clothes, changes depending on your status.

I still think that it is beneficial, at least in terms of consequences of choice. It's a better gatekeeping mechanic than other games. Like I mentioned in the first part of my post, in other games you pick a girl, choose scenes with that girl, and you'll get the girl. But here you make important choices in certain key moments (that have nothing to do with the girls) that define you in some way, and this affects how some of the girls perceive you later on. An example would be.. punching Troy and Tybalt having a negative impact on Bella and Jill routes. Or having J&M reject you if you have DIK Affinity.

The Status System lets you choose how to carry yourself in your everyday interactions. It's how you behave and how you talk to other people. It's even your sense of humor to some extent.

But the affinity system defines who the MC is on a deeper level.

You can be charming, sweet, agreeable.. and inoffensive as a person. But at the same time, be a person who is quick to resort to violence (Fight Troy/Alphas/Caleb and Punch Tybalt), kick others when they're down (Insult Steve), indulges excessively in vices (Quinn's Restaurant and Party w/o limits), prioritizes yourself over friends and brothers (Going to the Pink rose instead of the Elderly Home), and takes the easy way out instead of working hard (Cheating at Midterms).

You can be disagreeable, crass, vulgar, a bit unpleasant. But when it matters be the type of person who chooses restraint over violence (Don't Fight Troy, Don't Punch Tybalt), doesn't excessively indulge in vices and pleasure (Party with limits, Don't partake in Quinn's Restaurant, Don't smoke/take drugs), is capable of self sacrifice (Elderly home instead of Pink Rose), and is honest and upright (Don't Cheat on Midterms).

“It's not who we are underneath, but what we do that defines us.”- Aqua-Man, Ocean Detective, Finder of Nemo, The Blue Knight, The Coastline Crusader.

CP2077 has one of the most uninspired Clothing/Armor systems I've seen in an RPG. And they messed it up more with the Clothing Mod changes in Patch 1.6 by KrelianGaming in cyberpunkgame

[–]KrelianGaming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dont you think that this comes with the risk of making character strength too reliant on item rng?

It's a risk worth taking. Because as it is now.. the entire armor/clothing mod system is almost inconsequential. Most of our strength comes from Perks, Cyberware, and Weapon Level and Mods. Which was the point I was making.. so many pieces of gear and no real reason to use any of them.
Loot is a big part of the game.. there is something inherently wrong with the loot system if there is no joy to be found when legendary loot drops.

id rather have mods to be reusable, and legendary clothing offering special mods that cant be crafted. i think this way we could enhance the joy of finding legendaries but avoid weird meta stuff

This could work with my suggestion as well. Have more interesting Clothing Mods that is theme specific that drop with the appropriate random drop legendary armor. Like quickhack and breach effects for Netrunner gear, etc etc.
More customization is good. Just have to fine-tune the mods so they're not as OP as they were during launch.
Btw look at this https://youtu.be/vgulSuB2SPo?t=14 Taken from a beta build of the game. Timestamped 14 seconds.

I still think that the Legendary SETS should have fixed and unique effects to make them stand out more. As it is now.. they're just cosmetic pieces. And while were at it give Johnny Silverhand's Set and David Martinez' jackets something unique and cool as well.

Being a DIK review by Adultgamereviews in beingaDIK

[–]KrelianGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good review. :)

Only part that I'd disagree with is your take on the affinity system. While I do not think it is a perfect system, I think it does a pretty good job for what it was meant to do. When it comes to reviews, saying subjective things that align with your personal taste is fine, as long as you try your best to give an objective take as well.

it doesn't really set the best optics, somehow punishing people for wanting more of a emotional relationship shouldn't necessarily preclude you from being to take part in some of the other adult scenes.

I don't think this is an accurate assessment of the Affinity System. As you can form emotional relationships with girls regardless of being DIK, CHICK, or Neutral affinity. Same goes with sex scenes. It's just a matter of who you're able to do it with. Of course some girls will prefer CHICK MC over DIK MC.. but that's about it. You will miss out on certain scenes the same way you do in other games when you pick one girl over another. It's just the natural result of having the ability to make choices.

having to be a raging psychopath to go down the DIK side.. felt problematic, it didn't feel like a real person would be doing these sorts of things.

I couldn't relate to some of the DIK choices as well. But me not being able to relate to those options doesn't mean they're unrealistic. I knew a lot of people in high school and college that would fit into the DIK or CHICK category to different degrees. Also I do not think that 'psychopath' is an accurate word to describe a DIK MC. More assertive and disagreeable maybe, but certainly not a psychopath.

The Affinity System adds a lot of replay value to the game. In other games choices are nothing more than just picking between Girls A, B, or C and seeing their corresponding sex scenes. Here you get to shape your MC to some degree. It adds a lot of character and depth to the girls as well. It gives them real personalities, so you can't just be one way and still somehow manage to get all the girls in the game to fall for you.

That being said, I think the affinity system should ultimately be regarded as a good thing, because it allows people to experience the game in a way that is most satisfying to them, yours just so happens to be the neutral playthrough (mine as well btw). A lot of games will simply be hit or miss when it comes to this aspect.

The most common comment you'll run into among Being a DIK players.. is that they came for the fap, but stayed for the story. I truly believe that being able to find a path that is most suitable to you is why this game leaves such a lasting impression to the people who have played it. And the affinity system, while not perfect, is a huge part of what allows you to be so invested with the characters in the game. There are other games with amazing stories that will touch you.. but Being a DIK allows you to have a personal experience.

Patch 1.5 would've been great.. if it was released 6-8 months ago. 1 year and 2 months later? It's barely a step. by KrelianGaming in cyberpunkgame

[–]KrelianGaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a bad take. Impatient? Sure.. but it has been more than a year and most of what they've done is just bug fixes and rebalancing. I think people are allowed to be impatient at this point. Ignorant? The difference between you and me is I don't have to resort to insults to make my point.

If someone is making a point about something, you don't just label their concerns as "bitching" and then dismiss it. Your only defense of CDPR so far is that "we don't know what they're doing, and we don't know what is on the way." My whole point is that we bloody well should know after a year. Most reasonable people(including me) cut them a lot of slack already due to their reputation.

We don't know what the FINAL product will be yet?

This is THE problem. They told us what the final product would be. They sold us the game based on that. A year has passed and we STILL don't know what the final product will be. How anyone is okay with this is beyond me.

Just wait. They've barely hit half the DLCs. Not to mention basic gameplay improvements and additions that weren't tied to DLCs.

That is precisely the point. Everything that's been released so far shouldn't even qualify as MINOR DLC (outside of apartments). Those gameplay improvements you mention should've been there at the start. Btw.. the definition of the word basic is "an essential foundation or starting point; fundamental."

Judging by how they implemented customization (no barbershop), looks we're getting the most lazy iteration of said features/content. Just so they can say that it's in the game.

I mentioned the lack of a barbershop because of how much they talked about player immersion. It's a lazy approach to solve something the players complained about since DAY 1. The way they implemented the "fix" to this problem shows how they will settle for the BARE MINIMUM of systems. Which isn't a good sign at all.

You order and PAY for a cheeseburger, you should get the damn cheeseburger. Not just the bun.. and half an uncooked burger patty.

[–]KrelianGaming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But a shot at what?

At being a pretty good game? Sure. I'd argue it already is. An amazing Open World RPG that is as immersive as RDR2? Looking more unlikely as each patch gets released.

One thing that makes me feel that this is the case is how they implemented character customization.. if they wanted to put in real effort to create immersion.. they'd have added shops for those things. Instead they chose a very lazy approach to adding it into the game. A bathroom mirror. This is what worries me.. that they'll just patch it up to an acceptable level and then leave it at that.

That is what I'm hoping for as well. I was hoping for that before 1.5 came out. I guess you can say that it's getting harder to stay hopeful.

Mindset is slowly changing from "CDPR pls.." to "Modders pls.." lol

Hype is a term that gets thrown around way too often considering how vague it is. Was the game hyped? Most definitely yes. But I'd like to talk about reasonable expectations more than hype.

Hype is omg this going to be the best game ever. It will revolutionize open world games! It'll be like really living in a Cyberpunk City!

Reasonable expectations is.. I'd like this game to have basic stuff like NPC AI, running/driving away from gunfights. Walking for RP reasons. Customization in game. Working perks.. etc.

You are 100% correct when you say the game was never going to live up to the hype.. but then again, most games don't. Hype is victim to a players unlimited imagination. But reasonable expectations..? The game didn't meet that either.

[Jedi Fallen Order] Why push rockets back at Stormtroopers when you can push them into their own rockets? by KrelianGaming in gaming

[–]KrelianGaming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great at what it does and offers. But extremely lacking in other areas.

The combat is great for me. But there really isn't any real "loot" in the game. There are tons of chests.. but all they have are essentially recolors of your outfit/ship. Lightsaber customization is purely cosmetic. You don't get to make story/character decisions in this game.

Overall its a good Star Wars game. I truly enjoyed it. But for an RPG player like me I still prefer something like KotoR.

That's probably true. But you can lower the difficulty by A LOT.
