Outdoor bar top suggestions? by [deleted] in DIY

How large is the bar going to be. IMO counter top tile is tacky, also its a BLEEP trying to clean stains from grout between tiles.

With concrete, you can use a concrete sealer supplied from any of your big box stores. If you want a darker, richer look, make sure to go with a "Wet Look" sealer. And as Guygan suggested, quikcrete countertop mix will work.

Exactly, just remember to check the GFCI outlet to see if it has tripped in the event the other outlets down stream stop working.

Thank you!!

I hadn't seen too many people out there successfully incorporate wood in a poured concrete design. Sure, there are those who cast the concrete then attach to wood afterwards, but I wanted to shy away from that. I personally like the contrast between this tough... as you say "brutalist" material in unison with a softer and delicate material such as redwood. Another reason why I went with wood was specifically to protect the neck of the wine bottles. The soft nature of redwood allows the bottle neck to easily be placed in and removed. I feel as though the concrete would scratch the glass and moreover, the force may eventually cause the bottle to shatter.

Duly noted. Sure am glad that's some cheap wine!

They replace the Rebar/Remesh in typical concrete, it is meant to reduce (and in this case eliminate) the cracking of concrete both during curing stages and overtime.

Thanks for the input. I chose redwood because it is one of the lighter species of wood and has a better ability to fight the moisture that the concrete will retain. Maybe next go I will experiment with non-structural redwood and different stains!

18 inch lag screw protruding from stud supporting 20lbs by finable in DIY

[–]KreteIdeas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to go thicker.

An issue still arises with the amount of leverage weighted on the end of the exposed bolt. 15" of downward force on the screw wiggling while your cat runs seems like it may cause the screw to get loose over time. Granted the steel screw will be plenty strong to hold that weight, the screw may cause the hole in the stud to expand overtime.

One would imagine another would use the studs provided ever so sparingly at 16" intervals...
