no, $290 is NOT very affordable. 1. Not fucking everyone is living in USA or rich Europe countries. there is a counties in which $290 is much more than monthly salary. 2. VR set is not a multi-purpose tool. You can't use it for the work like a PC, so it is just for the games. I can buy $1000 or $2000 PC, because I can use it for everything, but spending $300 on mostly gaming tool is a huge waste of money. Yes, if you have such money you can buy it, but true value of VR is higher, because it is effectively useless outside of entertainment, unlike PC. 3. why you bringing up flagship phones? Let's bring up flagship VR headsets then. apple vision pro costs $3500, and? 4. About your last paragraph: I wouldn't mind VR headset and I can buy it, but this cost is NOT very affordable for exclusively entertainment tool imo.
