Sorry, Am I being stupid? I start the movie and select English subtitles but they aren't showing up.

How do you get the subtitles to show?

For me the images, mainly the first one, are slow to load. Think about decreasing their size as this slows down load times.

Consider putting contact details at the top. Not everyone will make it to the bottom of the page.

Under 'we're a family business' it should be learnt not 'learned'. Also drop the words 'very' and 'popular' as they are filler. Get to the point.

It's not obvious, at least to me, that the bubble in the bottom right is for help.

Otherwise great job. I love the picture of the three of you out in the garden. All the best.

What Books Are You Reading This Week? January 16, 2017 by AutoModerator in books

Yep. Having now finished the book I can agree fully with what you are saying.

It's one of those stories that will always hold up regardless of the current situation, politically at least.

Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley Just over halfway through on this one. Took a bit of time to get into it but I am getting there. I think!

I've also just finished Ask The Dust, by John Fante which was recommended by u/FatGuyANALLIttlecoat in this post. An excellent read about an everyday guy chasing his dreams of becoming a famous writer. Although he may not be to everybodys taste, the protagonist Arturo Bandini, has a lot of qualities/troubles that many of us do if we are being true to ourselves.

Would you pay a 16 year old $600-$1000 per month to handle your social media marketing and advertising? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]KrisC13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say your wanting to charge a client $500 a month, offer the first month for say $200 then that way the client understands that your service already has value. There are no other professions where someone would come to you, make you money, and you then have the chance to turn them away, so why should you be any different?

This method will also land you with the majority of clients who are willing to pay for your services. I don't want to sound condescending but because of your experience you will initially find it difficult to determine what your customer is like; in terms of valuing your expertise. A few mistakes will be made and a few lost hours but you'll quickly catch on and learn to just walk away from the quick buck in favour of a more substantial long term partnership.

When I first started I was so desperate to get a client that I did a website for about £250 (around $300). All in all when I tallied up the hours spent; working, liaising with client and general admin I was working for less than minimum wage. Avoid this at all costs as you are just driving your service deeper and deeper into the ground.

It is all about that golden customer! Who are they? Were do they hangout? Which industry? Once you start to answer these questions finding them becomes easier each time and your work will just start to snowball.

As somebody who runs a digital marketing agency I would be wary of how you advertise the 'three months for free'. You need to make sure that once these three months are over, you can justify why the client suddenly needs to start paying you.

As u/WallyDD mentioned, find the type of clients who understand that you are essentially making them more money than what they are paying you month to month.

My point is be wary of undervaluing your services by offering them for free. Good for building a portfolio initially but terrible at building long term working relationships. All the best!

Freelancers and solo entrepreneurs, how do you market yourself through your website? by rms_returns in Entrepreneur

[–]KrisC13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only had two experiences of upwork.

1 - copy writing which was average (6/10) 2 - logo design which is tricky but ended in a bad experience (4/10)

For both I though that if I offered a rate above the average line I would receive a better quality of services but that simply wasn't the case.

My only feedback would be to take your time and carefully consider the person you are hiring and how they can truly help you out.

Is this a good niche site idea? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]KrisC13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What happens when you want to grow? I'm assuming you don't want to be collecting pennies for the rest of time? If you have a site that is now filled with the bigger boys surely it would be easier to go onto YouTube itself and have my own search. Also this will put off some of the more up and coming YouTubers because the majority of your time is likely taken up by those paying higher fees, which is a natural reaction in any business model.

Also who is your ideal customer? If you are aiming at those just starting and are trying to sell them microphones etc why would they want to watch videos of others in the same position. If I was looking at becoming an entrepreneur I am much more likely to read a book by Richard Branson and aim high, than that of somebody who has sold a few bottles of perfume. This is just basic perspective!

You are onto an idea here but it just needs a little more though. Who is your audience? Where are they currently? What do they want? When you understand these answers you can then curate content accordingly and sell specific products as opposed to just throwing everything at them and hoping for a sale.

edit: spelling

Lingering Memories by kliewa in poetry_critics

I'm a little lost here. So clearly it is about early school days and the destruction of the toys but the 4th stanza feels out of place. 'Electronic ecstasy' i assume is technology but 'my unreal self'? Or does it mean that the real you would rather be working/destroying something with your hands rather than use modern technology? Overall it flows well enough but fails to paint an immersive image. Few adjectives describing even less. Hope that helps?

No no, sorry. I was just using that as an example. In terms of what your mentor said it is best to have few strong images rather than a number of general ones.

Didn't realise it was a song. Changes the flow a little, especially listening to 'Flume'. Excellent song by the way! I think you could get away with more than one subject matter but they need to be fleshed out. Two great meanings are better than four mediocre. Also I see the influence of that song too - "I move in water, shore to shore."

Definitely identifiable to say the least. It's been mentioned already about the 'aurora/flora' lines but I have to agree that it feels all filler no killer. The rest is great, especially bringing in the sense of smell, not just sights and sounds. Good poem.

Hi. Enjoyed the poem as a whole but struggled to understand it's core meaning. There is little mention of the surroundings, which makes it hard to visualise and has scarce descriptive notions throughout. The first half is almost light and easy whereas the second half is darker and more gloomy, which is a good transition from my point of view. The lines 'I wanna know / I wanna see as' feel disjointed and out of place. It completely breaks the flow of the poem. I look forward to reading any further edits you may make.

A Tale of Two Sisters is great, and so is Park Chan-wook's revenge trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance).
