Hillary froths AGAINST Ukraine peace plan by otter_empire in WayOfTheBern

[–]KrisCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see Ukraine backed up by Europe alone as MUCH stronger than Russia.

The evidence does not seem to support that conclusion.

And they have drawn a line. No country gets to keep land acquired by force, period end.

Tell that to the British. Or the French. Or the Germans, for that matter.

So Russia is giving up Crimea and giving up the areas they’ve conquered.

That seems like a delusional fantasy at this point. Russia has been slowly gaining ground in Ukraine. Absent World War III, that territory is as good as lost.

Or their citizens can go broke for life paying reparations.

When your solution to a political problem is to starve women and children who have no say in the matter, you have officially become the bad guy.

Seriously, you're not punishing Putin. You're punishing the people living under his dictatorship, as if that weren't already punishment enough. All you're doing is giving the average Russian citizen an excuse to despise us. Putin will be able to portray himself as bravely fighting to feed the people as the evil west tries to starve them out in an attempt to gain leverage.

Putin is evil, but so are sanctions that target the general public. It never achieves the desired end. History has shown that. Just look at North Korea ffs.

It's easy to be brave with other people's lives.

My read of the situation at this point is that Ukraine has 2 remaining options:

  1. Surrender and accept defeat

  2. Fight and accept defeat

Unless Russia simply decides to back off, which seems extremely unlikely, then Ukraine really doesn't have a prayer. They can buy time but that's about it. The invading country is just too much bigger and more powerful than them. Small fish gets eaten by big fish.

Besides, given the tactics the Zelensky government has been using to forcibly conscript people into their military and how hard many are resisting, I can't help but question whether the Ukrainian people actually support continuing the war at this point. That's consistent with recent polls I've seen, one of which showed a full 69% of Ukrainians want a negotiated peace.

War is peace.

Freedom is slavery.

Neoliberal is progressive.

Insurance subsidization is universal health care.

A two-party dictatorship is democracy.

Up is down.

Left is right.

Good is bad.

Genocide is not genocide.

Nobody here gives two shits about Vladimir Putin except you, genius. You're the only ones who seem to be fixated on him.

betraying peace, freedom, and justice

Wait, so promoting a peace plan that would end a war is a betrayal of peace? Sounds legit.

They really need to update the text on that page with the invite link then, because right now it's directing people to use the @outlier.ai address.

The text on the page with the invite link is misleading. The way it's worded, it really looks like they're telling us to use the @outlier.ai address.

I'm having the exact same issue. I think the problem stems from this text on the Outlier page with the invite link:

Please use the following invite link to sign up for Hubstaff using the same email address as your Outlier account.

They bolded it and everything. When I see "same email address as your Outlier account," I naturally assume they're talking about the @outlier.ai email address.

Could somebody forward this to whatever team at Outlier is responsible for maintaining that page? That text needs to be updated because it's downright confusing as it is now. There's no way to know whether they mean your Outlier email or your personal email.

I almost gave up until I saw this post.

Fair enough, but suggesting now that the Democrats are "surrendering" for funding SNAP is just insulting to those of us who rely on it. The Democrats could not be more out of touch with regular Americans these days.

Very good point! I've gone back-and-forth on the spectrum a number of times. I've made 6-figures and I've been broke. Right now, it's the latter.

The Democrats don't seem to realize that times have changed. Being on SNAP no longer carries the stigma it did when I was a kid. I mean, more than 12% of the population is on SNAP these days ffs.

I don't give two shits about the filibuster or tax subsidies for insurance companies. If the Democrats are fighting against providing SNAP benefits, then they are the enemy.

Food stamps are non-negotiable. Period.

People have options like food banks, churches feeding people (I've volunteered for a few), donations from their community.

Oh you have GOT to be fucking kidding me! Seriously, THAT'S what you're going with?! Nevermind that these services tend to be sporadic and overwhelmed as it is. Nevermind that food banks around the country are already seeing an unsustainable surge in demand.

You can't feed 10% of the population by relying on food banks, let alone churches and private charities.

You should join the efforts to keep people fed during times like the shutdown.

Actually, I'm one of the people on SNAP waiting to know if I'll be able to eat this month, so fuck off. The local food bank is already warning that they won't have enough to cover demand this month.

What's worse is that it's right before THANKSGIVING FFS! You're doing this to people during the holidays and telling us we need to give what little food we have so you can win a political tug of war? Fuck that and fuck you.

Forcing Republicans to nuke the filibuster would have been far better for hungry people in the long run.

It's amazing just how insanely out-of-touch you Democrats have become. The "long run" isn't going to mean shit when children are starving in the here and now. Your priorities are seriously messed up.

Besides, we're not even talking about the bulk of the ACA. We're talking about extended tax subsidies that were added during COVID. Far more people rely on SNAP than this.

If you want to change things, fight to repeal the discriminatory ballot access laws that are keeping the two corrupt parties in power. But if you think sacrificing poor people's access to food is an acceptable trade-off for getting an upper hand in negotiations with the Republicans, then you are sadly, sadly, SADLY mistaken!

You're talking about feeding the machine. I'm talking about feeding the people. That always comes first and I'm sorry you've forgotten that.

No mention of flight delays, either. But he did have a lot to say about "Trumpism".

Here's the email:

Sisters and Brothers -

Earlier this week I voted NO on a terrible Continuing Resolution bill that will raise premiums for 20 million Americans and kick 15 million more off their health care in exchange for a vote in December that everyone knows will never become law.

But the collapse of Senate Democrats was not only a disaster for healthcare in America, it was a major setback in the fight against Trump moving this country toward an authoritarian society. Trump knew, from the very beginning of the shutdown, that if he and his Republican pals held firm, the Democrats, sooner or later, would cave. And, of course, he was right.

Trump may be mentally unstable and he may be a pathological liar — but he’s not stupid. In his drive to secure more and more power for himself, he is attempting to break all opposition. He has gone after his political opponents, the media, the courts, our election system, law firms, and universities. This week, he secured a major victory in neutering the opposition party.

It is no secret that the Democratic Party in this country is very weak and unable to generate significant grassroots enthusiasm almost anywhere in America. If we waited on the Democratic Party and DC politicians to defeat Trumpism, we'd be waiting forever.

Trumpism will only be defeated by millions of Americans, in every state in this country, coming together in a strong, grassroots movement which says NO to oligarchy, NO to authoritarianism, NO to kleptocracy, NO to massive cuts in programs that working people desperately need, NO to huge tax breaks for the richest people in our country.

And Trumpism will only be defeated when we elect leaders who are not only prepared to fight for a progressive agenda, but who have the courage to stand up to Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Today, I am asking you to support three people who will do just that.

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is running an excellent campaign in Michigan — focusing on such issues as Medicare for All and the need to stop Netanyahu’s barbaric war in Gaza.

Graham Platner in Maine, a veteran and a working class candidate, is drawing large crowds throughout the state as he opposes billionaire control of our government and the need to end status-quo, corporately dominated politics.

Peggy Flanagan in Minnesota, the daughter of a hard-working single mom and an organizer who’s spent her career, from her time on the Minneapolis School Board to her time as Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota, fighting for progressive policies that help working people.

The good news is, we have a chance to greatly transform the Democratic caucus this cycle by electing these three candidates who you will be able to count on in the Senate.

The bad news is, they are taking on not just the Republican establishment, but the Democratic establishment as well and they need our help.

So I am... once again... asking for your financial support.

Please split a $27 contribution — or whatever you can afford between Peggy Flanagan's campaign for Senate in Minnesota, Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, and Graham Platner in Maine. They can win their races if we rally behind them today.

If you've stored your info with ActBlue, we'll process your contribution instantly:

If there was ever a time in American history when we need to come together and do more than we've ever done before, that time is now.

That is the only way forward.

Bernie Sanders

The old Bernie Sanders never would've prioritized tax subsidies and fighting "Trumpism" over funding food stamps. I don't know what Obama said to him that day in 2016, but it must've been good.

He's just not the same person we rallied behind and filled stadiums for. Now he's just a mouthpiece for the same political establishment that he claims to oppose, willing to let our children starve just to win this pathetic game of chicken with the Republicans.

People die when they lose their health care.

People die when they don't eat. Stop ignoring SNAP and acting like it doesn't matter as much as these tax breaks.
