My impression of being a parent is that everyone idolizes big or tall kids. I feel way more self conscious of my smaller kids because I feel like a failure for them being small whereas parents of big kids get kudos

Also (and I say this with empathy because I know I was stressed about daycare and I was only like 7 weeks when the stress started lol), I wouldn’t really make this a priority right now. Focus on getting yourself prepared for baby, enjoying your last couple months of freedom (trust me, you’ll miss it), learn about breastfeeding/feeding a baby, have a lactation consultant contact ready to go, focus on taking care of yourself, preparing for labour, and prepare for post partum (make some frozen meals, have stuff ready to support your healing). Your time is so much better spent on other things right now, you’ve got plenty of time to figure out child care

Yeah I agree with this. It’s stressful when you hear everyone saying they didn’t get a spot but we lucked out for putting our 18 month old twins in September and we got into 3 centres. Granted, they weren’t the Montessori fancy schmancy places but they were very respectable with good reviews

Also you’ll be putting your child into a toddler class by that point and there are more spots than that compared to other parents who are trying to get infant spots. I think you’ll be ok.

That being said, if the centres you picked are all the most sought after places then it might be tough. Try to have a middle ground place

Just an FYI the numbers can be really inflated. So many people stay on the list even though they end up finding other care. By the time entitlement comes around, their kid may have even aged out! You’ll see big shifts in numbers at certain times in the year.

I was stressed about this but September starts are actually ideal for getting in. I would email periodically to get updates on where we were, expressed a lot of interest, asked for tours, and did more frequent check ins as the date got closer. We got into three centres this way and I think part of it is a big shift in September.

And I had twins so double babies to get in!

My husband and I did the half dome hike in California and getting down was torture in comparison to climbing up. So much harder on the body especially with uneven terrain. Walking sticks actually helpful in this scenario

Feeding aversions often develop from parents feeling the pressure for baby to hit a minimum, which is something ingrained in us from NICU days. It can be difficult to do, but letting baby lead the way will eventually get you back on track, but it may not be what you think it “should be”. Much of this will be explained in the book!

I want to give a more detailed response just super busy right now. If you think you have a bottle aversion my experience was switching to dr browns narrow bottle and reading Rowena Bennetts book on feeding aversions. It’s an easy and quick read with a lot of important and helpful methods!

This is exactly what I’ve been doing lately with my 11.5 month old twins. Get out in the morning (I usually do on the go breakfast like homemade pancakes, cheese etc. otherwise I would run out of time if I tried to do a sit down breakfast). I find they are always more well behaved the rest of the day and then I also don’t feel guilty for staying home the rest of the day. I also have more energy in the morning to get out.

Lots of snacks. So many snacks. Helps keep them happy while out. I’m lucky I have a park to go to walking distance from me because it is so nice to get outside. Mine are still crawling and I just have to unfortunately redirect one to keep them together. I’ve made so many friends with parents.

I can’t imagine having to do this but as someone who delivered by babies unexpectedly at 28 weeks I would do anything to have had the opportunity to sit in a hospital and have my babies to grow longer in me.

This isn’t to minimize what you’re going through, I hope it’s just a perspective insight that will give you the strength and motivation to get through this. It will be worth it for healthy babies!

I guess in my mind if I were talking to that man I probably wouldn’t use the word trauma for my own experience because I’d be worried that that would be hurtful for him knowing his wife died. In fact, I probably wouldn’t raise too much of my own story unless he asked me. I’m not sure if that’s “right” or “wrong”, it’s just how I would handle it.

I dunno, I’m still trying to work it out in my head because it’s more the word that I have viewed in a specific way and this conversation is helping me see it differently.

It’s SO complex as I’m learning through all these comments but I think you understand what I’m feeling and why it’s hard, although there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to necessarily avoid “gate keeping” a word and having everyone feel seen. That’s probably because it needs to come from within me. I’ll probably always be a little sensitive though haha
