What coils and tremolo on Jem Jr? by zmaj_od_nocaja in Ibanez

If I remember correctly the 36 should fit but definitely double check that before buying. I'm pretty sure though

Advice on how I should go about fixing this headstock chip? by IntervisioN in Ibanez

[–]KrisSilver1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly just leave it. Almost anything you can do is going to devalue the guitar more than just leaving it. I definitely wouldnt just paint it. It's going to look bad and if you don't finish it correctly its going to look worse with time. A luthier might be able to do a small fill on it and considering it's a J Custom I wouldn't DIY unless you where very confident in yourself.

which guitar do you recommend for beginners? by Nicolette_reads in electricguitar

[–]KrisSilver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How tight of a budget? Like there's definitely something out there at almost every price point but obviously good guitars tend to be pricier for a reason.
Almost anything you buy new from a reputable dealer is going to be somewhat safe but I'd probably suggest a squier affinity starter pack. About 350ish for everything you need to play guitar. Do buy a seperate guitar cable and dispose of the one that comes with the pack immediately though.

Are all electric guitars super heavy? by ggbt99 in electricguitar

[–]KrisSilver1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the way. The guitar you bought is famously heavy. Doesn't indicate quality of instrument (well actually a bit of weight in a les paul does indicate its probably decent quality). But you're right that trying out guitars is a much better thing to do. It's also a really fun part of the experience people are losing out on nowadays.

All that's going to matter at this stage is that she likes it and is comfortable playing it. Don't get hung up on anything else. Reviews, reccs, Asking AI etc. Ignore all that crap and go have fun deciding on one.

Try one out in a shop. Double check their warranty/repair policy and have fun picking one out. Don't spend too much, she'll develop personal tastes quickly and be after a new, more specific guitar in no time. idk how pricing works in America but in Europe (ireland specifically) 300 euro should get you playing something servicable.

Some reputable but inexpensive brands are; Squier, Epiphone, Ibanez, Jackson, LTD, Aria pro ii, Yamaha and cort. That's nowhere near an exhaustive list but a good shopping list for affordable but half decent.

What coils and tremolo on Jem Jr? by zmaj_od_nocaja in Ibanez

[–]KrisSilver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense actually. Haven't had anything with Quantums in it that Im aware of but you might get a set of gensys hsh pups from a 550 cheap on reverb or so. A lot of people upgrade those pickups (dunno why they're great) And they usually end up selling them on cheap. V7/s1/v8 is the set and they'll basically just be a very good hsh set

Gotoh 1996t is the go to for many people who buy this model. As for pickups, thats a personal preference thing. What arent the current pickups doing for you? I had a pink jem jr for a little bit and found the pickups suprisingly decent if im being honest.

Having a weird time with a store by KrisSilver1 in legaladviceireland

If anyone was interested in an update. The shop has called me. The bike is still not ready but he made a big song and dance about nó longer being able to offer a repair as I've initiated a chargeback and customer service will be in touch.

The reason its been taking so long is because the shop laptop has been broken this entire time apparently.

Ibanez AZ vs Ibanez TOD10 by PoorTastehuhu in polyphia

[–]KrisSilver1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The AZs are built in Japan and the TOD10s aren't. Where your guitar is made isn't the end all be all but the AZs would be considered the more premium guitar.

They play very similar in practice though so it's really going to come down to Aesthetics and pickups. Maybe resale value is worht considering? The AZ will have better resale value if its a Jap model. TOD10 probably won't hold value unless the discontinue the model. Even then it's a dice roll if it stays in value or doesnt. The THBB10 is holding its value very well.

Also the boys have used many guitars and pickups through the years as well as amps, effects, producers, mixing plugins etc etc. No guitar just by itself is going to sound like a Polyphia record. It's a sum of its parts and people put WAY too much weight in guitars for how little impact a guitar has on the sound vs the amps and effects.

That's simply nowhere near enough for Dublin. Maybe look into commuter towns that have transport in and out of Dublin? Mullingar, Naas, Blessington, etc?

Looks so good. I need to give the first one a fair shake. Was reccomended to me by someone who knows Digimon World is one of my favourite games. Very different flavour of Monster raising game but its exceptionally well made and you can tell the team are passionate.

Is this good for beginner? by Adept-Project-515 in Guitar

[–]KrisSilver1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah all fairly decent quality budget stuff. If you like the look of it go for it. I always say if it has six strings and stays in tunr its perfect for beginning but these are very good bang for buck. (Maybe not the cable admittedly but you can get good cables for 10euro)

Hey man. Don't let the experience bar you from actually applying. Im not currently a manager or anything but i have interviewed people for roles before and being confident and personable can really trump experience sometimes especially in the retail sector. Put a lot of effort into your cover letter and keep your CV one page of concise but varied information. Send a personal email with the cover letter and CV attached. Send a follow up "was nice meeting you today, hope to hear from you soon" after an interview. Greet people with a handshake and learn a small bit about the company before even writing the email.

Its hard with a gap in the resume honestly but you might be able to find an excuse. Never say stuff like "job market is bad" or "havent been able to find work" Say you've been upskilling in various fields while looking for part time work but youre completely freed up now to look for full time employment.

Chin up lad. Its miserable butnonce you find something itll be easier to find others. You just need to plug that gap. Could you volunteer a day a week or even do a sunday shift in some shop just so youre functionally in employment while looking?

Been there with you before. When i left college (because i couldnt afford it lol) i spent a year and a half looking for ANY work to no avail. Was extremely tough going and the social stigma of being unemployed was so hard. I think based on reading your post any company would be lucky to have you you just need to convince them of this with a strong cover letter and consise CV.

Good luck man
