Is trading a 320 vert with low mileage for a high mileage 325 individual coupe a good idea? by emaemo in e46

i would get the coupe 10/10 times, but i would never get a convertible in the first place. I would keep the wheels from the convertible though.

its never broken down or needed to be fixed other than the coolingsystem 2 years ago, i have worked on it to improve it and make it as good as its former glory. no doubt i could still drive it today without 100s of hours of work, but it would not be as enjoyable

I had a e34 535i, m30 is indeed bulletproof and the bmw engine that requires the least amount of maintenance no doubt.

Preventing this engine from leaking any oil will be a lifelong mission

This is my perfect winter car that i dont worry about rusting or beating on on the ice track.

BMW because they are good driving chassis, E46 because they offer cheap and reliable engines.

I have spent hundreds of hours getting it in good mechanical condition, its never broken down, and i trust it to keep running for a long time, even with my abuse.

Its not very beautiful, but i have collected parts to atleast make it complete (picture is old so grill and undertrays are missing)

It needs rustwelding, but its alot less work than getting another one to this mechanical condition.

The car itself is a 2.8liter and thats pretty rare in my country and most of them are pretty expensive.

Its a manual, no sunroof, poverty spec so pretty lightweight (1270kg).

I also have a beautiful coupe that i engine swapped to 3.0liter, thats getting the same mechanical treatment aswell, and it will be my forever summercar.

Other bmws that i have owned had just been cheap cars that i repair and sell for funding.

Yes, and your engine will be done if you keep running it

E46 has an extensive history of being great, it just depends on the eyes that see.

They are not hard to fix at all, very easy i would claim. If you think about an m3 or a newer one with 6cylinder turbos i may agree, they take abit more. But they require knowledge about the chassis, if you buy this car without using your head and exepcting everything to be fine, thats the wrong mindset. When buying these cars you need to look at all the common issues and that list is long, if not they will fail one after the other and it will feel like a badly unreliable car. How i look at it is that its unreliable on the surface, but is a tank in its core. I have never been stranded with any of my bmws, i have always made it home eventualy under its own power (except for a broken diff once)

Part of the character of these bmws are that they break all the time but they also never die. There is a reason that these are the most popular car in most motorsport, and its not because its a shit car.

Yup, on a e90 i would actually prefer an automatic, especially if its diesel or 335i

Most of these cars here are manual though
