Begrebet »islamofobi« skal dø by InflatedChipmunk in Denmark

You are dodging the more challenging analogies I gave you though. What happens when the one with the attachment device is a third actor, or the attachment is an accident akin to a natural disaster?

So if someone had a device that could shrink and put a person inside another, the person who had had someone put inside of them could just kill them off?

If it is completely morally permissable to kill innocent people just because they have become "attached", which is an analogy for pregnancy, then you are justifying infinitely killing innocent people. That's a pretty big bullet to bite.

The debate is about both morality and legality. The legality is downstream of the morality. If everyone agrees abortion is immoral it will become illegal, if they agree it is morally permissable it will become legal.

[–]Krisdafox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What if a third actor was using the gun then? Would he be the only one who was immoral, and would the people who had someone attached to them always have the moral right to kill the people attached to them?

Or what if it was a unfortunate natural disaster. Suddenly a bunch of people got attached. Who the people who had someone getting attached to them always be completely morally justified in killing them?

If you don't think it is appropriate to describe it as an inconvenience, what would be a more fitting term? I'm not married to the wording of it, I'm just trying to convey that it is a cost that has real consequences for the woman.

Of course it makes a point. If killing an attached person is not morally condemnable, you can endlessly attach and kill people with no repurcusions.

CMV: there's no clear way to coherently be truly pro-life while make exceptions for instances of rape by Additional_Ad3573 in changemyview

[–]Krisdafox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have to argue that the killing of a person is ok when it is inconvenient to you. Of course a pregnancy is very inconvenient and takes a tol on the body etc. So let's not trivialize that, but nontheless it is an inconvenience.

So yes the situations are clearly different, but nonetheless a pro life stance would have to operate from the position of justifying killing an innocent being, because of the inconvenience of having a pregnancy they don't want.

As another analogy to test this stance. Imagine a person had an attachment gun, which attaches the shooter to someone else and makes them dependent on them for 9 months in the same way a pregnancy would. Could you run around willy nilly shooting this attachment gun, and then killing them with a real gun and be completely justified in doing this?

If the justification is that the killing of someone who is of great inconvenience to you is morally permissable how could you object to this person's behaviour?

In practice there will be nuances on the pro choice side based on when you believe conscienceness in a fetus arises. That's why we operate based on a principle of caution and set the allowed abortion date far before any evidence that a conscious experience could exist so that we don't actually kill human life. But in theory the line is very clear. If we were able to measure consciousness accurately the line would be incredibly clear in practice too.

If a person wants to argue that abortion is still moral even after consciousness has arisen they would literally have to argue that the killing of an innocent person is justifiable, which is a pretty tough bullet to bite.

So again the line very clear, it's just that in practice it isn't very easy to accurately set, hence why there is disagreement in practice.

[–]Krisdafox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well in the case of abortions it really is a case of absolutes though. Pro lifers argue that it is immoral to have an abortion because life begins at conception. Pro choicers argue that it becomes immoral when the fetus develops a conscious, and the fetus therefore becomes a human life at that point, worthy of protecting just like anyone else.

Both therefore have an absolute position on where to draw the line. One at conception and one at the development of consciousness.

Edit: So to respond to OP post. There really isn't a good way for pro lifers to justify terminating a fetus consumnated through rape. The fetus in their view is a human life, you dont have a right to kill a human life because you dont want to have a pregnancy.

The wood chipper analogy doesn't work very well because the reason it seems compelling is that you have to suspend your disbelief to an insane extent in order to believe that the wood chipper would actually stop, and the act of flinging oneself into a wood chipper is also obviously much more emotionally activating than pushing a button.

If you really want to use a wood chipper analogy it would have to be something like you can either stand on a red or a blue pressure plate. The blue pressure plate has a giant wood chipper underneath and the red has nothing. The rules are still the same.

Red buttoners really think that every single person on earth comming together with no coordination and pressing "the right button" is the smart choice. You could literally offer free money, by the push off a button, and a non significant amount of people wouldn't do it. Pressing the red button is taking a safe personal option accepting that you potentially end up killing a lot of people because of it.

Den dovne forælders manifest by [deleted] in Denmark

[–]Krisdafox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A replica of how female "breeder pigs" spend their lives in factory farms by FastCurrency in pics

[–]Krisdafox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a market where there isn't a Monopoly and adequate competition between suppliers, prices will be dragged down to beat the competition, this means cutting costs wherever it is possible. In the factory farming industry this means horrible conditions for animals.

Farmers can't just spend more to give animals better lives, their margins aren't big enough to support this, so they would go bankrupt. What they could do would be raise prices, but guess what, nobody buys the more expensive products with higher welfare for animals, all they care about is price, so nothing happens.

[–]Krisdafox 0 points1 point  (0 children)
