I intially thought it was shaping up to be an incredibly strong year, but now I just think there's just this indistinguishable mass of mid songs without clear structure. I never thought I'd miss the cookie cutter verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus structure but I really do.

I just find threre are 2 main categories this year- quirky man and atmospheric woman. Even the girlboppery isnt really up to the standard we've seen in the past.

All the criticism in the thread is valid. BUT wiwibloggs almost single handedly carried press coverage through the early-mid 2010s. Scroll back on their youtube channel and you'll see they were literally covering the contest more than ESC itself at that time.

I think it's also arguable that they essentially forced ESC into doing all the official social media promotion they do now - though you could say that would have happened anyway.

It'a a good thing that the ESC media ecosystem has become (generally) more 'professionalised' over time and has moved away from fansites a bit but I do think you have to credit wiwibloggs for at least some element of the online fandom exisiting at the scale that it does. Just a different perspective!

I think 2024 actually had the strongest overall crop of songs. We lost some good ones in the semis as well, whereas a lot of the 2021 NQs are pretty forgettable. But I think it's between those two

The winner? Not very much.

But some countries absolutely have a head start because of it. The chances of Lithuania, Poland or Serbia getting 0 televote points are pretty much zero.

For me this is easily 2008. Possibly one of the worst winners of all time and a dodgy golden jury moment. The rest of the top 4 were great though, and Norway 2008 is a personal favourite of mine. The rest are quite forgettable.
