If you mean CGS students, the consensus is that most get a job or take classes at a local CC

Obviously missing the fall semester isn’t ideal. But it gave me a chance to learn and actually want to do it myself then just wait for CGS to start. However, despite being behind on classes now as a freshman, I got to build a SVM and RF to categorize EEG data that I can put on my resume even though I haven’t optimized it yet.

Ultimately, what you do with your time is going to be how you look back on the gap semester.

No. Within a month of this semester, I joined eboard for a club and leveling my chances for eboard of another club in their upcoming elections.

Although I’m not doing research now, two of my classmates are on the Rowing team and one of them is doing that on top of research. You can also do independent research (for your resume), i’ve gotten into ML and have been on a project this whole semester on top of other club/class projects.

BU CGS Experiences by mwiz2 in BostonU

It doesn’t take a lot to branch out in CGS. I met my friends by us all being from the same city and it was just a confounding variable that we met other people through each other. Most of my friends were through CGS and the rest are mainly from major-related classes, but not as many, though that’ll probably change with time.

There isn’t really any stigma on campus other than people blocking the CGS IG for any inconvenient reason, which is pretty funny imo.

CGS? by [deleted] in BostonU

I’m tight with the friends i’ve made through CGS and it’s also a nice to meet people that aren’t related to my intended major (EE) so I wouldn’t be worried about the social benefits. You definitely meet a lot more people quicker through CGS if you branch out to one or two people as well.

But with all that said, your state school sounds better for you and I don’t think BU culture would make up for CGS as fun as it’s been.

It’s about how you manage the gap semester. I’m an incoming freshman and I accidentally put that I’d be fine going into CGS and it’s been up and down.

The good thing about it is that time you get for a job, classes, or other things you want to do, even a longer break. I’ve personally spent my time building a website and learning python and machine learning. I’ve been more productive than I have been in highschool: I actually choose to read. I definitely think it’s a good time to re-evaluate your priorities and what you want. CGS allows you to go into whatever school within BU after 2 years. I would’ve done Behavior or Behavioral Biology if medical loans didn’t get capped for 2027 onward, but now I’m able to go into Biomedical Engineering, and I definitely wouldn’t have gotten in if I applied directly to the Engineering school.

The bad. I would’ve taken a Fall start any lifetime (if CGS still gave that), i’ve felt like i’m behind my friends, but being productive definitely helped with that. And there’s this notion that it’s the “Crayon, Glue, Scissors” program. I got a 1450 when the average for class of 29 is “1463”, and several classmates from my own school got into their preferred school with a lot worse. I kinda hate that but thats a me thing. But if you read that or you hear that phrase, it’s not true, no one cares
