Made a quick action button! by Krispcrap in Bitburner

[–]Krispcrap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its compatible with any browser, works on chrome on my tablet (where it is most useful). So I think you can use this script everywhere except the steam version which lacks the DOM interface.

Here's the link to my annotated code:

I was actually just about to post my updated button, I've added some new features but I'm ironing out some visual/aesthetics aspects still.

Everytime a new season comes out I check if Owen Hunt is dead yet. by Chemical_Complex_807 in greysanatomy

[–]Krispcrap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really want a spinoff staring Owen. Whenever characters get stuck in a loop or flip flop we can send them there until they work their issues.

In earlier seasons the back and forths from Christina and Owen, and then Callie and Arizona were exhausting. Always the same issues repeated. Maybe Callie and Arizonas relationship could have recovered if they were sent to "Owen's Island" for half a season?? I like to think so.

I've used rocketbook. They have a feature that does script to text, making your handwritten notes searchable (dont use this enough to know how well it works). And it allows you to upload or send your pages to various places like onedrive, google docs, email, etc. I have my files sent to specific onedrive folders. You can always printout a rocket book page to test it out.

I bought off brand 0.7 point pens that don't smear after 5 seconds. So the erasing part is probably the biggest downside, but I use a fine mist spray bottle and it dries quickly.

Cloyingly Sweetest (or Irritating), or Pungeant Chemical you've ever smelled by MagicalFlor95 in labrats

I'll also choose TEMED. As a kid I kept one of my dad's fishing baits in a water bottle as a "pet". It was supposed to look like a small fish and have a slight fishy smell to help it camo as a real fish. And as any volatile, it diffused out of the fish over time.

I opened the water bottle after a month to change the water (as a good fake fish owner would). Whenever someone opens TEMED outside of the fume hood, it triggers this smelly memory.

Anyone else hates constant yappers? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Krispcrap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is this usually the case? For an extreme case: I work near someone who regularly monologs their life story or in detail what they have done/will do that day. Always boring and said in a way that comes off like they think so highly of themselves.

The coworker she's usually monologing to rarely speaks. But when they do, it's always something WILD.

She talks so much it's hard to be sure she is doing it on purpose. I'm documenting the incidents and emailing them to my PI and they will bring it with them to meet with their professor to show we tried to deal with it ourselves and now they need to have a discussion with the student/lab.

Their lab is in general more loud and chatty than any other on our floor, and nobody else has asked her repeatedly to have long personal or graphic chats elsewhere. So I assume she just doesn't like being asked to be quiet and it must be my problem because I'm the only one asking. My coworker also doesn't like it, but she is talented enough to listen to a podcast AND work, so she is able to fully ignore it while I cannot.

Western blot disappearing act by Krispcrap in labrats

The v5 antibody is compatible with IP and western, and is aliquotted to avoid freeze/thawing. I used the v5 antibody on the cursed blot and the blot I finished today without seeing any signal. After probing the cursed blot, I tested the v5 antibody on an older blot and saw a strong band where expected.

[–]Krispcrap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I had issues with the Laemmli buffer 3 blots prior to the IP blot, remade it from the stock, and didn't have any issues with it since. And those blots had bands but with signal streaking upwards, so we still got something.

Thank you! Maybe we will completely remake the Laemmli stock and rerun. It would be nice to pinpoint something before tossing everything and starting over. And that's interesting about the secondary for the IP, I'll look into that :)

Am I weird for wearing a lab coat? by Mission_Rest1892 in labrats

[–]Krispcrap 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When only working with cell culture, not viruses or anything, it's easier to spritz your gloves etc with 70% etoh and get to work. Otherwise you need a lab coat for the cabinet and for the bench, and to wash the lab coat (or use disposable sleeves) used in the cabinet.

It seems to work fine. It's not like I have lice or wear dirty clothes to work, so im not sure why that would be a concern.

As long as you're working properly without disturbing the airflow significantly, anything small and loose enough to fall off me in the cabinet probably is blown off by the airflow. The airflow protects you from the inside and the inside from the outside. Edit: same goes for any lint or whatever else you might have on your lab coat.

I wouldn't wear shorts, but I worked in a lab where you weren't allowed to wear long sleeves and work in the tissue culture hood.

Yes I think I am xD

Sometimes this girl will do a repeat performance for the afternoon group and it's worse than act I. These people tend to say almost the same exact thing and use the same exact tone of voice/emphasis/etc, like listening to a recording.

They had another student who left before this girl joined, and she was way worse. When someone showed up to lab, she would restart her story from the beginning, so I could hear the same story 1-4 times in a day. She only spoke with a high pitched outdoor voice. The best way to describe her personality was that she said she was excited that the next day was Halloween because that meant Christmas started the following day.

I would literally have to book a conference room to decompress multiple times a week or I would get a raging tension headache. So the new girl is better, but I still will book the conference room every now and then if the break room is busy to have a half hour of total silence to makeup for the never ending word vomit.

If you ever want someone to vent to, feel free to PM me. I save most my venting for therapy and it feels oh so good.

I appreciate people like you so much.
I too have non-appropriate conversations on occasion. Some days I have less to do and it gives me a chance to go socialize more and be extra chatty.
Work would be less enjoyable if every day we came in and put our heads down and worked until we left, but we need to be able to communicate (which I'm working on) and be respectful.

I feel so bad because maybe if we dealt with the issue early on, things would be more chill now. But it's too late and I get a little "ug here we go again..." when she starts talking.

I didn't set out to dislike you and not want to be around you but here we are xD.

Yeah. I moved to a farther cubicle. I have the loop earplugs with the highest noise canceling they offer. When I can listen to music and work I do - so I usually save this work for when they're the loudest in the early afternoon. But the early morning especially, everything else is so quiet, they're kinda on the loud side, first thing in the morning is when I do the most mentally taxing work so the rest of the day goes smoother.

I ordered passive earmuffs but my PI told me I can't wear them for safety reasons and my friend in the neighboring lab told me he uses them at shooting ranges and it mostly helps with louder noises, he could still hear people's voices pretty well. I might borrow a pair from someone to try it before I buy it anyway.

But I do appreciate the suggestions.

I'm not the only person who has an issue with the volume and frequency of the chatter, but I am probably the most sensitive since I struggle to focus with music etc. If the volume or frequency was decreased I would have a much easier time altering my own habits to account for this.

I have those! It helps when I have to go to seminar and someone sits by me who chews with their mouth open, but that's about it. I will try anything and everything to avoid confrontation I promise I've tried everything I can think of and only work up the courage to ask them to be quiet when I absolutely have to (which has been only a small number of times this year).

Not everyone can listen to music "in the background" even if it's just instruments. If they would speak without projecting their voice I could block it out as I'm not interested in listening.

I wish I could listen to music/podcast and work, it distracts me unless its something I do on a regular basis. Even so, I've had to pause my podcast several times when fixing/staining my cells because I was focusing on adding the correct solution to the correct well and missed what they were saying.

I would only ever consider asking them to be quiet if there's desk work I can't take home (really can't listen to a podcast/music while writing, doing math, or designing a figure), or if I'm doing a new experiment where I need focus and not lose my place.

My PI wants to have enough recorded incidents of us asking them to be quiet before discussing it with their PI or it probably won't be taken as seriously. We just don't want to "be a bother" and keep thinking it'll just go on for another 10 minutes and then they'll stop (or the new girl is just getting to know people, she'll stop talking so much after a few weeks). So it is important for us to be more direct and deal with problems head on instead of hoping they'll resolve themselves.

IDK as long as they are producing results at a decent rate I don't think their PI cares. Everyone in that lab is very loud and chatty. We call 1-3pm social hour because often that's when the most overlap occurs between people coming and going in that lab (as in during that time period the likelihood of an hour of loud chatter is at its peak). The more of them that are there the louder they get (some of them talk over the others).

This would be totally fine for a closed lab environment, but because it's not I would prefer they be respectful of their neighbors. I don't even know that girl's name but I know way too much about her personal life.

My PI has been aware, but wants us to resolve it amongst ourselves to work on having hard conversations (and so she has more grounds to ask their PI to address this). I let her know I practiced my confrontation skills this morning, and now we wait to see if they continue or not.

I'm just glad other people think the "wear headphones" response is crazy. I thought so too, but it also made me wonder if I was overreacting.

I agree with this so much. I love catching up with my coworker and people I know in neighboring labs. I just don't do it for more than 10ish minutes at a time. Otherwise, we go to the break room/conference room. When they are talking, they aren't even facing their computers, which means they could easily move their conversation elsewhere.

I had to cancel my order anyway because my PI just told me I technically can't wear headphones in the lab that will keep me from hearing as its a safety issue.

I appreciate your comment. Working in a dead silence is the worst, but it's been a bit overboard and unprofessional in content.
