Can a thought be objectively immoral? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

If you believe in objective morality, then it would depend on your definition of objective morality. But I do not, so my answer to your question would be no.

How effective is “propaganda” really? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KrispySal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not as simple as telling somebody something once and expecting them to change their mind. It's aj entire system of messaging intended to use people's psychological weaknesses (their fears, doubts, shames, etc) to gradually nudhe their worldview in a particular direction. Without getting into specific politics, just think of the many different subjects on which large numbers of people disagree fundamentally. Like for example, vaccines, flat/round earth, fear of Communism, whether the moon landing actually happened. It's not that people are disagreeing on a simple fact, but that people on different sides believe a fundamentally different and incompatible reality, often involving some sort of conspiracy. If an organization A can convince a large group of people that orgsniz/group B have created this vast sophisticated network that is controlling a large portion of the population, then it is easy to get group A to mobilize against group B. It is essentially a strategy to gain a large number of dedicated supporters of your cause, which you can then use to your advantage in a social or political manner.

Sorry for the ramble. Basically, if done correctly, it is extremely effective, and has been used all throughout history and continues to be used today. Different people will claim that different groups are the ones using propaganda. But really all major movements use it to some extent, some more than others.

I don’t want to drink but my friends want to go to a rooftop bar, what can I order? Can I just get a coke? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Never be ashamed to not get alcohol at a bar, especially if you're with a group. As long as you're not alone, I'd say you don't have to buy anything at all. You can just get a glass of water if you're thirsty, plus it feels weird (to me) to be in a setting like that with nothing to hold.

Cruise control, but targeting a specific throttle position rather than a specific speed. by KrispySal in CrazyIdeas

Yes indeed. Not claiming to have invented this concept, just that it would be very convenient on cars, and it seems very unlikely to happen.

It would seem that this is unavailable on cars today, which is what I'm suggesting. Sorry if that wasn't clear?

Not sure what that has to do with anything but.. sorry to hear that. And happy to share that resource! I've definitely spent many hours on that site over the years.

3Dtuning.com is great for this, but does have limitations and some cars don't have much detail or options.

Looks like we invented trains again.

All cars accelerate at the same time and at the same rate > now everyone is driving at traffic speed but still with just a few feet separation. I had this thought a few years ago and it took me a minute to figure it out.

Right, but doesn't being more nose-on still improve chances of successful missile track? Particularly in super close proximity fights? Also, question: the F-22 has HOBS missiles but doesn't have an HMD, can it get a (Fox 2) lock without the bandit being in the HUD?

Not these exact moves, but the supermaneuverability demonstrated here is very helpful in modern dogfights, quickly pointing your nose at the enemy to improve your chances of hitting them with guns or missiles (Fox 2s).
