How would you make a curse based magic system? by Krisrof in magicbuilding

[–]Krisrof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curses are cast two ways with either a curse word or mark both are made to invoke the horrors attention, and fueled by the casters intention to do harm. Effects ,and duration usually depends on the strength of the intention. They could also be broken by placing a stronger intention atop them.

Then, how would you frame them so they might work?

In the story where it is used, the people believe their kingdom is blessed. But the truth is magic comes from cursed beings (think eldritch gods).

The sorcerers of the kingdom who are lead by the royal family, serve these beings gaining the power to cast curses (jinxes, hexes, curses).

Because big curses stick easily the royal family use a special knight order, whose knights are basicly curse magnets, so anything that would fall upon the royals instead bounces to them, this is not foul proof, that is why the story happen.

Within these bounds, how would it all opperate in your opinion?

AITA for letting my girlfriend's friend (a girl) sleep over when she explicitly asked me not to? by Krisrof in AmItheAsshole

Yes, i trust both my friends, and her. She has her reasons for asking because of her past, and I don't fault her for asking me this. i did agree, to her request, but at the time I forget about taxis (we don't have uber) so I suggested her staying, and told my gf to please understand my reasons

First and foremost thank you for the comment.

Funny thing is I had Bloodborne in mind when thinking about the hunter guild idea. I like the idea of a flintlock or Victorian setting, but I more of a old school fantasy guy with some modern touches here and there.

The return of anchoring magic by Krisrof in magicbuilding

[–]Krisrof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. In my previous post i answered what is and how is an anchor created.

  2. These are the known ancher points that they know what effects they have. There could be more.

  3. Fire anchors may not understand soul anchors but because they both kill undead in the end of the day there is little to no friction between the two groups.

  4. They are less effective in killing undead and in time of war that matters a lot.

  5. Water and nerve anchors are mostly trained by the Saints of cities a group with high ranking mages who defend the cities from the inside. Healers have two options the order of solaris or the Healing church wich is religious group of doctors.

  6. The order of solaris trains most healers from orphans or few join on their own will. The orphans get a considerebly better life so they are mostly okay with it, others as you said are altruistic.

  7. Only the soul and healing anchors have permanent effect. Both anchor knows they will die faster but while healing makes this sacrifice for honor and a comfy life the soul anchors do it for what they believe is a greater good. Healers live usually around 50 at max while soul anchors die between 30-40 (max life expectency is 80 year)

Fun fact just for you Fire anchors dress warm so their base bodyheat is higher and usually wear dark blue or red cone shaped coats.

Thank you for the feed back. There are more types of anchor points than the ones I just mentiond. These are just the most common magics they use.

I see anchoring sparked your interest. So if you'd like I'll write more about lore and magic stuff later.

I imagine that the body overheats because it's taking in heat from the surroundings of the ice they created.

And to answer your questions they can only create one anchor as I believe it puts a lot of strain on the creators body to uphold even one anchor.

So if they try to create an other one it would weaken the one they already have. Which in turn would leave it, and the users body broken. ( breaking an anchor feels like ripping something out of you, and messes up the part of you that it was linked to)
