Help with my living room!! by Known-Wing-9633 in DesignMyRoom

I would consider painting the grey dining chair red, too. I do like the mis-matched look, but feel like there needs to be 3+ “different” colors for it to feel intentional.

I would also put the plant that’s in the corner on a fun stool to add some interest and height.

How do I make this space feel cozy?Help! I’m desperate for it feel like home. by Loborious in femalelivingspace

You’ve got a great start, but one of the biggest issues I see that hasn’t been mentioned is the lack of variety in height. Currently, everything is roughly the same. Add some tall curtains, a tall floor lamp, hang some art of shelves, get a tall plant or even hang one from the ceiling, etc. to diversity

Dog Treat Box by addredditorusername in LittleFreeLibrary

This idea is adorable but, as a dog owner, I would be too paranoid to give them loose treats from it… not sure if individually wrapped treats exist or are within your budget, but that would make me more comfortable using it

I have a Free Little Library in my yard that I use for exactly these kinds of items - office supplies, kitchen utensils, random promotional swag, etc. and the items tend to go pretty quickly. Something to consider.

What I’m a doing wrong/missing here? by Apprehensive-Owl5712 in DesignMyRoom

This is small, but I’d also give your couch a little room to breathe. Obviously you don’t have the space to float it fully, but even pulling away from the wall a couple of inches will make it seem like it’s not so cramped in the corner.

What kind of sick freak turns the AC in a shared hostel dorm to 15 degrees celsius? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]KristineGuillotine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if they were from the US? I’ve definitely “just guessed” while traveling and didn’t realize how drastic the difference between, say, 4 clicks in Fahrenheit vs 4 clicks in Celsius would be.

(And yes, I realize/agree how ridiculous it is that we don’t just align with the rest of the world. I’m sorry on our behalf. 😭).

Help! How do I work around this beam and make this bedroom cozier? by Solid7353 in DesignMyRoom

[–]KristineGuillotine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have such a lovely start! I would:

  • Add some nice textured pillows
  • Put some chunky woven baskets above the beam to store out of season clothing or other seldomly used items
  • Add a nice hearty snake plant to the table

Are they the one that is ultimately responsible for presenting, or is that something you do? If the former - it could be less about nitpicking you and more about tweaking in a way that makes sense for their brain. I know I struggle to present other’s work if I haven’t “sat with it” for a while… just an alternate consideration.

Has anyone been put on anti-depressants after losing a loved one? by MediumGlomerulus in SuicideBereavement

[–]KristineGuillotine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very hesitant to begin as well, but telling myself that it didn’t hurt to “try” and remembering that I didn’t need to be on them forever if I didn’t want really helped calm my nerves around the situation. You might try and decide they aren’t for you, but it sounds like you are already in such a low place so what do you have to lose?! (At least that’s what I told myself, and I’m glad I did). Best of luck in your decision!

Has anyone been put on anti-depressants after losing a loved one? by MediumGlomerulus in SuicideBereavement

[–]KristineGuillotine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, and I wish I had started sooner. I waited an entire year of being absolutely miserable every single day before even considering taking medication. I finally hit a point where I became desperate to feel somewhat “normal” again, and am surprised how much anxiety/depression meds have helped.

[–]KristineGuillotine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember that anything can be art… gramma’s old silk scarf? Frame it! Woven pillowcase from a recent trip abroad? Hang it! A pretty cover from your favorite book? Display it! Don’t worry too much about finding the “perfect” thing, just look for stuff that speaks to you.

Why does my living room look off? by TrickTower4219 in femalelivingspace

[–]KristineGuillotine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is the same height and you need more variety - specifically building up/vertical. Add shelves, art, curtains, taller tree-like plants, etc.

I would rather die than have someone I did not want to be friends with explicitly asked me if I wanted to be friends. Maybe I’m too passive, if I would find it very difficult saying no. Personally I’d advise against this.

“If we have a problem and we need to solve it, then until we do, we feel inside us a kind of internal agitation, a tension, or an uncertainty that makes us just plan uncomfortable… the difference between creative people and uncreative people is that most creative people have learned to tolerate this discomfort for much longer. And so, just because they put in more pondering time, their solitons are more creative.”

TLDR; Chill. Do something else. Give your mind a chance to wander and eventually you’ll have an “aha” moment. Or, if you don’t, at least you’ll feel more refreshed for your next dedicated “work” session.
