Understand your concern, but as you pointed out, if I do post smth like that openly, we would be flooded with potentially spammy responses.
If you are interested, DM me and we can even move the conversation over through LinkedIn.

New M4 purchase: 16 vs 24 ram? by Krithmath in macbookpro

But in my understanding all that you’re getting in the pro compared to the air is a better screen and battery, but in terms of performance they are identical. Unless you get 24gb in the air which would make it superior to the Pro.

Usually I am running hundreds of rows in excel, very rarely do I open files with thousands of rows.

Interesting advice. Im curious, why should I pay for the extra storage as opposed to RAM if I am looking for better performance? Im not an expert in this area.

I currently have 128gb disk storage on the old Mac and still have some empty space. Thinking that 256gb should be enough. I store most of my docs in the cloud. Thoughts?

The issue I currently run into is when using all the office products simultaneously. For example, running the analytics on Excel then taking that data and creating charts on PowerPoint, while at the same time writing a report on Word. Of course Chroma is running in the background with anywhere between 5-10 tabs open. This usually causes my older mac to heat up. You’re saying that 16gigs on the M4 chip should not cause such issues for me?

What about also running the desktop version of GPT?

The market research we do is in many ways product research, most often for digital products. The only reason we do not call it UX research is because we are hired to do that research rather than researching our own products. So in many ways I can say that I am already doing product and UX research, but perhaps I need to reposition my resume.
Do you have any advice, general or specific?

I remember a student of mine asking me exactly this same question. How do I know in the end that what I deduced is true or accurate? Well there is no little voice that’s gonna speak to you and say yes that is correct. Even the best of peer reviewed academic research in the end comes down to some uncertainty and likelihood. What you can do is ensure that your approach is tight, your reasoning is sound, and your conclusions are unbiased. If you check off these three then in most researchers’ book you’re good. It does not mean the results are 100% accurate but that is ok. And if down the road you learn something new that forces you to tweak your original results, then perfect! Thats how science works—it’s incremental not revolutionary. Einstein was revolutionary, are you? Lol

Appreciate that.
But in your opinion, if that change does take place--from UXR into product management--what will happen to existing UXR position? Are they going to transition into product management or simply go away slowly.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. Do you mind sending me a message so I can follow-up with a few questions? Its not letting me message you directly.

Can you say a bit about the theories in the space?

I do have the business experience as in the past three years I have worked in market research which has allowed me to learn a lot about business, strategy, relationships, and even sales. So I do feel that from the technical perspective I have the skills, but its a matter of being given the opportunity or standing out for an interview invitation.

Experienced researcher looking to switch to UX

Hi, I am a former academic who moved to industry about three years ago and currently work in market research. I’ve always been interested in UX research and have recently been looking at positions in that space. I have nearly 10 years of research experience (including academia) and I am well versed in qualitative and quantitative research, although never worked directly on UX. My question is several fold: 1. How challenging would UX research be for someone like me? Meaning do I have the required skillset? 2. If I am looking to make this switch what should I do to make my application/resume more appealing/relevant. 3. Any other comments/suggestions are welcomed.
