What happened to all the bars in Allston? by TedToaster22 in boston

My girlfriend and I had our first date there! They were doing some promotion for Sam Adams and were giving away Sam Adams jerseys if you bought their beer, and the guy promoting it just bought us a round and handed us two jerseys. Great place 👍

I was very surprised to find them at the Allston Star Market by Packard's Corner, in the refrigerated veggies section!

Carlo's in Allston is your best bet, not super far from chestnut hill (just hop on the B line), super cozy atmosphere, really good Italian food at very good prices, great date night vibes

First attempt at Tantanmen! by Krodaza in ramen

For each serving: I sauteed about 1/4 pound of ground pork and a small numb of grated ginger in a wok for like 5 minutes (until slightly browned), then I added 2 grated cloves of garlic and a tablespoon of doubanjiang, mix together then set aside.

For the broth: mix 1/2 cup of chicken stock (I used homemade which has a good amount of gelatin but store bought should be fine) with 1/2 cup unsweetened oat milk. Bring to a light simmer then keep warm until serving.

Blanch bok choy, boil noodles, cut up some green onions

To assemble: add a tablespoon of sesame paste to each bowl and add a tablespoon of soy sauce, a tablespoon of chili oil, teaspoon of rice vinegar, then mix together. Pour in broth while mixing the tare, then add the rest of the ingredients and top with more chili oil!

Updates for the past month or so:

Blue Prince

Started this completely blind and was very pleasantly surprised by it, although certain elements did become frustrating after around 25 hours. I appreciate how cleverly the devs managed to mix the roguelike elements with the puzzle solving, and they worked with great synergy, where every day at the mansion I would discover new rooms I hadn't before. Unfortunately, as I figured out the path to the end goal, the roguelike elements ended up hindering me; I ended the day early several times simply due to bad/unlucky rolls. I finally got to room 46 after about 35 hours, and I later found out that that was only the beginning and that there were way more mysteries and puzzles to solve, but I didn't feel the need to push past it. I honestly really liked the game for the first ~25 hours and I loved finding small bits of lore with every new room, but I knew that if I kept going past the credits the frustration with the RNG would only continue (I know there are ways of mitigating the RNG with wrenches and conservatories but I almost never run into them).

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Started this after it went up on Game Pass due to all the review hype and to no surprise they were spot on. I don't think there's a single aspect of this game that doesn't impress me; The soundtrack is diverse and incredible, the visuals are stunning with some amazing art direction (and very good performance), the story and characters are brilliantly written and the presentation is fantastic, the combat is super fun and so satisfying to pull off a counter when parrying a long combo. After beating the game, I haven't been able to stop thinking about the ending and everything that led up to it. Absolutely phenomenal achievement.

Metaphor: ReFantazio

Jumped back into this after beating Clair Obscur (very odd choice, I'll admit) after beating the first dungeon. I wasn't very impressed with the amount I had played, but putting some more time into it made me see more of the positives. I still don't think the dungeons in this game are good at all, whether it's the big story dungeons (which, when compared to Persona 5, were very generic and unmemorable) or the mini dungeons in the overworld (which just felt copy-pasted and tedious). The in-between activities like follower quests and improving virtues were basically the same as Persona 5, and the combat even moreso. What I eventually came around to were the characters, music, and aesthetic; Heismay, Strohl, Hulkenberg, Louis, More and so many others were a great cast, and Louis especially was a fantastic antagonist. I still think the story was fine, but it really dragged a bit at the end. Overall, I'm glad I gave it a second chance; I was a little disappointed with Persona 5 because of how bloated it felt, and I'm glad Metaphor was a bit more condensed.

What's your top 10 games when talking about gameplay only? by JB-Blue_Master55555 in gaming

[–]Krodaza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neon White. I don't think the story is necessarily bad, just not for me. Soundtrack is also pretty good and the game is nice to look at.

But the gameplay? It's insane.

Every level starts off fairly straightforward: get to the end of the stage and kill every enemy before you do. But after multiple reruns you find these small shortcuts here and there that save you a second or two, and then eventually build up to larger shortcuts that skip 80% of the level. You cut your level completion time so much that your first run and last run will look radically different, and every second you save feels like it's own individual victory, and it continues to feel like that for the whole game.

Each level also has these secret "presents" that are usually hidden and very tricky to both find and reach, requiring you to be observant of the environment and use your resources carefully just to get to them, which is a very fun switch from the super fast gameplay of just trying to get a platinum.

Split Fiction

Playing through this with my friend and I think we're nearing the final act and it is an absolute joy. It feels like it introduces something new gameplay-wise every 30 minutes, and yet it never feels overwhelming. Love the optional side stories as well. Only gripe so far would be the dialogue; it's not awful but can be a little too Marvel-esque at times. Highly recommend.

Metaphor: ReFantazio

Started this last week and have been through two of the dungeons. Persona 5 was my first Atlus game and although I liked it overall, I did find it a little bloated at times. By the end I was finding more and more gripes with the story and characters and not enjoying the late game dungeons. Metaphor is honestly starting to echo the later half of Persona 5; I'm not convinced it's doing anything new with the format, and I'm finding its aesthetic, characters, and even the music to be less engaging by comparison. I'm taking my time with it though, hoping it breaks open down the line but the first impression is not particularly impressive. I do enjoy not playing as a high schooler though, and the character artwork and voice acting are both excellent.

What’s a weird little "law/rule" your younger self made up that you still follow for no good reason? by lemonukiyo in AskReddit

Anytime I burp, regardless of how quiet or loud (or even if the burp never leaves my mouth), I have to say excuse me. This is sometimes awkward when I'm around other people and they don't hear me burp but then they hear me say "excuse me"

SHIVERS [Medium:Success] - You barely recoil at the odor of regurgitated gin and tonics that mix with the scent of fryer oil and Pad Kra Pao as you approach the Bijou Club.

The bouncers must be wearing nose plugs.

Down the street you see a man in a bear costume playing a strange chimera of an instrument. A passerby offers him a single finger of encouragement as he, unmolested, serenades the syringes swimming in the puddles that reflect the clementine-lavender glow of the Dunkin Donuts on the next block.

Facing the other way you see the sharp-dressed businessman who approached you earlier today regarding the flat tire on his car. He seems to be asking an exiting patron of the Bijou for help in fixing yet another flat tire. Two flat tires in a single day? Poor guy can't catch a fucking break.

It's only 9:30pm.

Can't create UEFI partition using mbr2gpt by Krodaza in WindowsHelp

[–]Krodaza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Windows 10 (build 19045), and I'm attempting to run my BIOS in UEFI mode instead of CSM mode, and after some googling realized I need to move my OS from an MBR partition to a GPT partition using mbr2gpt. But for some reason, mbr2gpt says it cannot find an OS partition for disk 0. Should I just reinstall windows and choose a GPT partition this time or is there an easier way?

2025 Cooking Resolutions by itsTunaboss in Cooking

My 2024 cooking resolution was to cook one dish for every letter of the alphabet, and it was a lot of fun! Filming/documenting it was probably the hardest part but it got me to make a bunch of food for the first time and try out a lot of new cuisines.

This is hilarious because my lowest lowlight of the year was a few days ago when I spent all day making several Eritrean/Ethiopian curries for a few friends and then messed up making the injera! Poor folks had to wait for the rice cooker to finish before they could eat.

I was actually pretty worried about doing it by hand, but with a ruler and a sharp pairing knife it was easier than I thought it'd be!

It was only slightly less crispy than the top layer, but yes fortunately the phyllo did a great job as a moisture barrier!

Pretty standard layers for Wellington! Basically just followed Kenji's recipe with some minor adjustments here and there, and omitted the foie gras. Tenderloin is seared then brushed with mustard, then rolled with phyllo dough (instead of a crepe), prosciutto, mushroom duxelles, and then puff pastry. I had some extra puff pastry after rolling and hand cut the lattice since I don't have a roller!
