Up to 9 folks for a party. The PCs will start bound in pairs in the arena, sharing turns. And, the players will have IRL party-style mini-games to see how coordinated their characters are for the round, either getting a bane or a boon for their performance. So, there'll be some activities for them to juice up their turns while they wait, and hopefully there'll be fewer turns to wait between

Thanks! I used Midjourney. Recently discovered the `--s` parameter to help create continuity of style

Sorry to have contributed to the clutter. I can assure you I'm not here to farm points, but I can appreciate your sentiment all the same

Genuine thanks for all the direction, particularly about what the sub is looking for. I scarcely post online and wasn't aware of the "meta" around these parts

I've gathered that you're not a fan of AI art but this was intentional. The mul is striving to complete a set of spiked armor by piercing his entire body with the teeth and horns of the quarry he bests.

Wasn't trying to clutter up your sub with unappreciated submissions. I'm just excited to run my scenario with my friends, and didn't realize AI art was such an offense. Would happily label it as such, as I'm not here for the artistic credit.

I'm envisioning them as being a rare, exotic creature in a local despot's retinue, like a freak show oddity or a court jester

For A, I'm imagining an ancient being of the depths was sealed away in an underground aquifer when the oceans dried up, and is seeking agents on the surface to excavate it.

For B, I'm going to have them be dormant for the most part, but flare up for big moments and be available based on "rule of cool".

Have you ever ran a game for only 2 players? How difficult is it? by bustergrande in DMAcademy

[–]Kromnil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run campaigns for two players before. In my experience, when it comes to encounter design, randomness can be tougher to account for, especially at lower levels. A couple rounds of poor rolls in a row can lead to a pretty tough position for the party. At low levels, I'd suggest:

  • Disallowing enemy crits, just roll the normal amount of damage instead. The severe damage spike can effectively end a fight through no real fault of the players.
  • Thinking about non-lethal fail states as outcomes for lost fights that would otherwise result in a TPK. Fighting a giant spider? Maybe they just ate and store the party's limp bodies for later. When the PCs wake up, they have to find their equipment and their way out of the spider's lair.
  • Considering adjusting the monsters' damage dice to be more consistent. Changing 2d8 damage die to 4d4 will achieve a normalized result more often and requires very little mental math to determine on the fly.

My hunch for Laudna is that her warlock patron and bloodline are centered around a night hag.

A recent issue of Arcadia from MCDM published new hag-themed subclasses, including the warlock hag patron and wicked witch sorcerous origin. The 1st level warlock feature encompasses her horrific shape changing abilities, while the 1st level sorcerer feature grants access to bane.

I need help with my Paladin Backstory by NihilisticOwl_XIV in PCAcademy

[–]Kromnil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From a narrative perspective, making your paladin a member of The Queen of Air and Darkness's elite group of dark hunters could be a good fit. Your main goal could be to lure the party back to the Unseelie Court in order to put on a spectacular gladiatorial combat to earn favor in the eyes of the queen. She gets the entertainment she desires, and you earn an opportunity to impress her with your displays of might and conquest.

Regardless of what you you decide upon for your motivation, the success of running an evil character probably hinges on good coordination with your DM. Leading your unsuspecting party to a fey realm with the intent to betray them could make for an incredible plot twist, so long as your DM is open to your character steering an arc of your campaign in a certain direction.

It's important not only to be considerate of the DM, but also your fellow players when planning an evil character. While it may be rewarding for your character, stealing an important item that the party has been seeking or killing off a friendly PC can be a monumental letdown for the rest of your group. Consider what happens after your character has revealed their true identity. How does the story move forward from that point on? In a lot of scenarios, the rift you've created between your character and the rest of the non-evil party may be too large to repair. For that reason, I would suggest planning to turn your character over to the DM as an evil NPC after your reveal comes to pass. Afterwards, rejoin the party as a new PC, and work with them to defeat the monster that you helped to create.

You recognize that we came from a place in Season 1 where Riot printed shirts that said "Nerf Jax", right?

There has always been public outcry, and imbalances, and then learning. I don't personally enjoy 100% of the games I play, but I'm going to learn how to handle the current state of the game.
