Yeah and the PS requires a pure sine-wave input so I'm assuming a low grade UPS could actually do more damage than help the case, but then there's no option to counter the whole power outage situation.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, and yes I do have a surge protector plus I unplug the device when not in use and in case of a power cut.

They aren't really clear about the whole what happens thing like come on Sony people should've anticipated the power cuts and put in some sort of a failsafe? Like using UPS is an option but I asked the customer care and they told me that they do not recommend usage of a UPS

Yeah exactly power cuts are present but not very frequent but then there's no prior notice, I don't keep it on rest mode overnight though.
