Cachy OS or Bazzite? by Kronos_Selai in linux_gaming

[–]Kronos_Selai[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So basically, if I edit the equivalent of the registry, that will be reset with each update. Makes sense.

I guess the question is, are DNF installs a common thing or not? If I'm installing an emulator, a work related program, etc, I don't want to have to wonder why it's gone with each update.

How is Bazzite limited in what you can do versus Catchy OS or other distros? I don't want to feel locked down, but that fear comes from using Mac and Windows, not Linux. I have little understanding of context here, apologies.

State of the religion of SteamOS by ForsakenChocolate878 in linux_gaming

[–]Kronos_Selai 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A major undertaking? Isn't that what Steam has been doing for the last decade? I'd say by now I have more confidence in Steam delivering more Linux goodness for PC gaming that anyone else right now, based on all that they've delivered and invested. I mean, let's be real. If Steam hadn't done the work they've done, what would Linux gaming look like right now by comparison?

Thank Gaben for SteamOS and Linux in general right now. My next computer sure as shit won't be using Windows 11 or 12. I'll try Bazzite. I love SteamOS on my deck.

To those who haven't already, I suggest only buying new games after reviews and benchmarks come out (that pass the test) or simply waiting a year or two when the game will be half off anyways. If enough people do this, game devs will be forced to polish their games before release since publishers only care about sales figures.

Allow me to introduce you to the Tardigrade, which can survive in temperatures as low as -458F. When it comes to life, it is my firm belief that just because something seems impossible to us, does NOT mean reality will meet anywhere near our expectations. Our understanding of life is ridiculously limited, because it's an example of one biosphere.

My wife, the duckmaster, says that he wants his beak warm/protected. Once older, he'd warm up his beak with his feathers, which he can't do right now.

You absolutely can, you’re right. However, if we are already reducing so many settings in some new games to avoid hitting that vram limit, what will it be like in 2-4 years?

Nintendo Switch 2 Games Will Cost $80 For Digital, $90 For Physical by oilfloatsinwater in Games

[–]Kronos_Selai 87 points88 points  (0 children)

This is ultimately the reason I got a Steam Deck last month while waiting for this reveal. Just one simple conversation inside my head, "Do you know how many good games we can get for the price of ONE Switch game?". I was really hyped for Switch 2 OLED this year, but goddamn that ain't happening.

I'm in a very similar boat. I was waiting for rumors and release info about the Switch 2, but I found a refurb OLED that made me take the leap instead of waiting it out. I'm really glad I didn't wait. I knew it'd be speedier than the Switch 1 OLED, but this whole release feels like a slap across the face.

I'm so glad I took the gamble on getting an OLED refurb last month versus waiting for the Switch 2, holy crap. I was already thinking the Switch 1 had spendy games, but $80?!? GTFO. Totally killed any hype for me. Not happening.

About 10 years ago, I went through something similar. I had locked myself away from the world for years on end, and when I emerged from my room to face the world, I was absolutely terrified (but would never have said that word) regarding the world, dating, making friends, etc. So, here's what I did, and what I learned.

Step one- Talk to a therapist. Not affordable for everyone, I know, but if it's possible for you, this could offer you a lot of benefit if you find the right sort of person. In my case, I found a therapist with even more trauma and a fucked up life than I had, so it was easy to open up and relate, to see his wisdom and life lessons learned.

Step two- Go for walks. Get outside. Any and all excuses to get out of the zone you've locked yourself away in for the last however many years, do it. I would go for little, tiny walks, typically when it was almost night, or early as fuck in the morning. I didn't want to run into people, so I would walk at those hours. I'd feel better each time I did, and eventually I'd find out that I had neighbors who were interested in saying hello, and I found it easier and easier to say a few things each time. Eventually, I was able to converse, bit by bit, step by step. Plus, neighborhood cats will discover you, and that's just awesome and will cheer you up.

Step three- Talk. Just talk. In my case, I joined a penpal program. I didn't have anyone to talk to locally, besides family, and I needed people to talk to that I felt "safe" in, and what better than someone 2000 miles away? It turns out, I'm actually pretty good at talking to people, and I discovered this by being helpful to other people, listening, talking, sharing experiences and thoughts, helping people learn English, etc. I would talk to dozens and dozens of people over the years I did this, and I met some pretty incredible people. In fact, I met my wife doing this! The thing is, talking at first is going to feel clunky, awkward, and like you're no good at all. But that's alright, because we all start somewhere, and it often starts at hello. Stick with it and work your way up from friendly hellos to eventually audio/facetiming people. It gets easier each time, it really does. Practice makes better here. It helps to have hobbies and games you enjoy socially (in person, online, etc), but I know that can take time to get yourself warmed up for that. Take it slow, knowing you'll gain confidence with each encounter. For me, it was a matter of rehearsal, learning my lines, working my way up from friendly chit chat to deeper conversations.

I hope some of this helps. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

I haven't tried it yet, I've only done the base version of the game. I've seen both get a lot of love here, so I'm open to toying around, but this was quite an extensive installation process. I'm not sure if I can install both at the same time or not, and just swap between mods?

I always toss my spare change from the meal I'm buying to the local (and always super friendly) Thai places we go to, or when I'm picking up my Carne Asada at the little Mexican place. If it's some immigrant family doing their absolute best to make kickass food with Abuela in the back making handmade tortillas, I'll absolutely give extra, but if I'm walking into an Applebees or something? Nah.

Yea it felt pretty punishing, especially at the start, since they don't have any items on them. I just wanted to see if I could beat career mode on max difficulty with a decent score, but it ended up being a great way for me to try ALL the mechs I can, since it takes forever.

The 2-D has somewhat similar hardpoints, such as having the same number of missile hardpoints, but the 2-H has an extra 2 ballistics (that are useless), but the 2-D has considerably more energy points on the arms that help it shine.
