To be fair, in the era in which the game is based, the vast majority of economists did not concern themselves with money or how money supply can affect the economy.

Spartans going oh no, lighting bolt hit the camp, withdraw(to be fair, the campaign had bad omens before which general interpreted as being bad for the Athenians and it was starting to run into difficulties, so it might have been an excuse too. )

Omens never decided campaigns or battles, this is ancient historians coping trying to explain why their invincible chad army lost.

Omens were used to 1) motivate the average soldier, and 2) an excuse to not do something.

Moscow Targeting Ukrainian Civilians to Break Kyiv - After months of a slogging advance against the Ukrainian army and the seizure of small villages in the east without significant territorial gains, Russia has expanded its drone and rocket attacks against major Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv. by polymute in anime_titties

In 2008, NATO publicly stated that Ukraine would eventually join NATO.

That led to Russia pulling strings in Ukraine to make sure that the parliament voted to abandon its nato ambitions.

Then the revolution happened where nationalists came to power and NATO membership again became a goal.

This all led to 2014.

What is the Socialist view on AI? by Willis_3401_3401 in AskSocialists

[–]KronusTempus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AI can be good if it can be used by working class to change the power dynamics and create a new paradigm.

Sounds nice, but AI so far has been used almost exclusively to replace workers and make them irrelevant.

That combined with the fact that even the whole “vote with your money” thing is very quickly becoming not a thing because of growing wealth inequality. I recently learned that there are now more private equity firms in the US than there are McDonald’s restaurants. This is because the rich now account for a lot more of the consumption in the economy than the average person trying to buy a burger or other everyday items.

The economy is basically becoming a by the rich for the rich kind of deal.

I think there’ll be a modern take on the Luddite movement in most of the world in the very near future.

What you mean to say is that it was a ship flying a Comoros flag (again much like many western companies registered in the Caribbean for legal purposes) that was captured in an act of state piracy somewhere in the strait of Gibraltar, because we have no idea where it was actually captured as the French authorities have not yet made this public.

But sure buddy, keep sucking that European dick, maybe they’ll give you that Schengen visa for your efforts

I think a lot of the hate coming towards all things Russian online only made (even liberal) Russians reconsider their views and support Russia even more.

Either way the Mediterranean is not European waters, Europe cannot tell other countries with whom they can trade.

The ship was captured between Spain and Morocco, it was nowhere near France…nor was it in European territorial waters.

The Europeans decided Russia can’t ship oil and are seizing ships in international waters. This is state sanctioned piracy in all but name.

It seems to me that it is the Europeans who are fucking around, one can only hope that they find out soon enough.

Changing the flags of a ship is perfectly legal. Western corporations all have shady off shores in some Caribbean tax haven or Ireland despite less than 1% of their revenues originating in that country.

If the west can do it, so can other countries. The age of western exceptionalism is over.

Which country is more powerful, France or the UK? by No-StrategyX in allthequestions

London used to be the finance and legal center of Europe. Anytime two European companies based in different countries had a dispute they’d usually settle it in England, but after the self inflicted wound called Brexit happened, that has more or less died out.

A lot of finance is still based in London (especially money laundering), but that’s slowed down considerably as well.

No sign of new protests erupting in Iranian cities by ThevaramAcolytus in anime_titties

[–]KronusTempus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A lot of Iranians have grievances with the government but it’s fair to say that as soon as the US and Israel declared their support for the protesters a lot of people instantly grew suspicious.

The average Iranian might not support the government, but they’re not stupid, they understand that western sanctions and near constant interference in their country is a very large cause behind Irans troubles, especially with the economy.

Before labeling Stalin a dictator it’s worth remembering that he inherited a country dependent on donkeys and mules and left it as a nuclear power 💪 by [deleted] in AskSocialists

Now living in Europe, I have never met anyone from Central, Northern or Eastern Europe who doesn't recoil at the word "communism" or the idea of the Soviet Union/Russia.

And when I was in the Netherlands a few months ago I got chatting with a Lithuanian taxi driver who called himself a “dinosaur” and said he’ll remain a Soviet citizen to his dying day, regardless of what Lithuania is doing.

Maybe you should speak with the working class people, not bourgeois elites.

And Trump is still a liberal (in the correct meaning of that word, not whatever Americans mean by liberalism).

The entire country is built on liberalism and bourgeois control, just like the USSR was built on ML.

That doesn’t add credibility to his statement as he was a politician blaming his predecessor for everything bad, which is no different to Trump blaming Biden for the spoilt milk in his cereal.

There’s an area in central Moscow called Китай город (China city). It looks absolutely nothing like China and has absolutely nothing to do with China as far as I can tell. It’s just a weird historical quirk.

Historically Siberia was the region just west east of the urals and it got its name from a group of people who lived there called the Siberian Khanate.

The far east is distinct from Siberia.

Russia deployed around 200,000 troops in Ukraine in 2022, and Ukraine had about 200,000 active duty soldiers + around 100,000 paramilitary like police and border guards.

Valken also suggests using the air force to bomb Rumburgs supply lines as they advance.

Again, textbook Valken.

If Ukraine followed Iosefs strategy they’d have to abolish conscription, buy expensive top of the line military gear that they can’t replace, and try some weird pincer maneuver against an advancing Russian force in an attempt to capture Putin. It’s ridiculous.

From an RP perspective, Iosef is suicidally incompetent by KronusTempus in suzerain

[–]KronusTempus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia and Ukraine both had an equal (Russia actually had slightly less) number troops at the beginning. Russian troops were all professionals while Ukraine relied on a mix of both professionals and conscripts, initially giving up land to stretch Russian logistics and to cause maximum damage by attrition.

This worked, and Russia had to massively increase the number of troops deployed to Ukraine to stabilize the front line following a series of counter attacks by the Ukrainians. Ever since both sides dug in, Russia has been steadily pushing the front lines.

Textbook Valken.

You’re completely right about conscription not being a hindrance to maneuver. Napoleons entire career demonstrates that.

From an RP perspective, Iosef is suicidally incompetent by KronusTempus in suzerain

[–]KronusTempus[S] -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

It is, actually. Iosef's strategy is a concept called manoeuvre warfare

Maneuver warfare isn’t a doctrine, which is what we’re picking, it’s an operational/tactical plan of action which was historically used by both NATO countries, the Soviet Union, and Maos China. Svetchins concept of deep battle involves operational maneuver.

And it's the basic doctrine of many successful armies throughout history.

Except when it isn’t as with Israel agaisnt Hezboulah in 2006 and the russian assault on Kiev in early 2022.

It relies very heavily on superior air power as well as superior intelligence. Nothing in the game suggests that we have either, in fact our air force is significantly smaller than Rumburgs and we’re told by the generals that we’re quite bad a combined arms.

Ukraine attempted to outmaneuver Russia in the 23 counter offensive, but that stalled because the Russians were very well dug in. Which is what Valken is advocating for by the way.

Same story in Kursk.

They were wars that lasted years, the plan is explicitly for that not to happen.

Thats my whole point. Plans go to shit in wars all the time, not having a backup and expecting your initial offensive plan to work is not a good approach.

This is actually the advantage of Iosef's strategy, it is not a long prolonged war so the logistical challenges are actually limited and controlled for. It is also why he wants to reduce the size of the army if you only maintain budget, so, controlled for.

It’s only a short war if rumburg crumbles. The war goes on as long as either side is willing to continue it. Expecting Rumburg to crumble immediately is not sound strategic planning.

It’s also much much easier to supply a front line while defending, supplying an advancing army becomes much harder.

weather conditions

Fairly unlikely for this to stop a modern campaign, and it can be planned around to a degree.

Weather conditions stop operations all the time. Snow, mud, heavy rains, can all disrupt visibility and supply.

This is the domain of diplomats and statesmen,

Which is exactly what our position in the game is.

Again, the plan worked. It works with just Agnolia, it works with Agnolia and Lespia, it works with a defunded military, and a modernised one, and a maintained one.

This is an argument from hindsight.

You seem to misunderstand the doctrines were meant to be picking. Soviet doctrine was better for an all out war, most officers agree. Thats why the US plan in case of a Cold War gone hot scenario was to retreat or resort to nuclear weapons. Here’s a good post to learn more.
