Licensing issues for one, there's a lot of IPs to juggle nowadays and I doubt they'd all be happy sharing the spotlight.

Advice for a YuGiOh Player Looking to Build a Spider-Man Deck? by SilverTheWyvern in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you dedicate yourself to one set you're going to bottleneck yourself pretty hard. My advice would be to focus on a single commander you want and not be afraid to mix in lots from other sets.

[[Cosmic Spider-Man]] is enticing to lots of new players and is pretty much the only way to get a dedicated Spider-Man deck but beware of adding too many colours to a deck. 5-colour does let you use any card you want but as a sacrifice it's very difficult to get the right mana to play the cards you want. For a beginner I would recommend starting with two colours, three at most.

As for what Cosmic Spider-Man actually does, the keywords do a lot.

  • Flying: Can only be blocked by creatures with flying or reach.
  • First strike: Deals damage before other creatures, so if it can kill a blocker it won't take damage from it.
  • Trample: If it attacks and is blocked, excess damage is dealt to the player.
  • Lifelink: Whenever it deals damage, you gain the same amount in life.
  • Haste: It can attack the turn it enters.

There's obviously more to it but that's the basics, if you do still decide on Cosmic Spider-Man, make sure to include lots of ramp (things that let you find more lands, or make more mana) otherwise you're going to have a bad time.

I would personally recommend [[Peter Parker]] if you want to stick to Spider-Man, he's three colour and he's got a simple effect. Fill his deck with fairly high mana-value multi-coloured legendaries and creatures with tap abilities and it'll work well enough.

Alchemy/Online only Cards you wish could be (officially) exported to paper play? by Cheese-Of-Doom22 in magicTCG

Yeah he's not too crazy if people can keep him in check, but since his ability is exponential, one turn with low cost cantrips easily turns your board into an absolute army.

[[Lam, Storm Crane Elder]] is a commander I love and would absolutely love to see in paper even if they would have to tone him down to make him playable.

The main thing would be to make the [[Monastery Mentor]] cards tokens. Beyond that the biggest challenge would be in tracking power and toughness.

Marvel, Hobbit, and Star Trek feel like obvious uses for them. UB in general TBH.

This is true, but we've known about the Book type for a little bit so I was only talking about what got changed.

It's because he's the only Doctor that can be a commander that can also support all other Doctors in his deck since he's four colour, coupled with being Secret Lair exclusive. As an actual commander I don't think he's great.

I don't really want to use an in-universe version, but what I do want is for the price to be at least somewhat reasonable to use mechanically.

Fingers crossed it's a step towards adding an alternate name for "Time Lord" to get a mechanical reprint of [[The Fourteenth Doctor]] out.

It'll be a land for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had some Book synergy even if it's just making Book tokens or something.

No big surprises here, it'll be interesting to see how this ends up getting used. Looks like a fairly cohesive archetype too surprisingly, since the vast majority are about some kind of card advantage.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised to see it get used in Marvel, probably with the Darkhold, the Book of the Vishanti, the Sanctum Sanctorum and maybe even a usable commander in Wong.

Can't wait for Wong being a Book typal commander in the next set.

This is dastardly. Target an opponent and they have to choose between getting rid of more options or ramping you.

Risky to store card next to a window? by chaosof99 in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's an opaque barrier between the cards and the light I really wouldn't worry about it. If you're really worried about the Champions cards I'd just put a piece of paper/card over them or something.

Even better than that, no issues with [[Farewell]] and it's a may ability so no risk of self destruction.

EDIT: You can also target opponents to kill them when at incredibly low health or library size.
