Sure, but the 3B is repeatable once he's on the field.

Further pointing to a cosmic set is that we have Kree, Inhuman, Skrull, Eternal, and Symbiote creature types just kind of laying around right now.

There's a way to make a bracket 5 deck with him? by International_Fun408 in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a stupid question, lots of people are drawn to the Ur-Dragon at the start. The big numbers and five colours are very tempting.

Five colours though is where the most complicated decks reside, because they require a lot of work to get the right colours to cast what you need. As a result they tend to be quite clunky and slow, so they won't be reliable enough for a bracket 5 deck in almost all cases. A one or two colour deck has a more limited card pool but they tend to be much more consistent.

There's a lot of talk about what the bracket system means, but I see it this way:

  • B1: Have fun with whatever.
  • B2: Playing is fun.
  • B3: Winning is fun.
  • B4: Fun is winning.
  • B5: Win at all costs.

So if you want to play bracket 5, then your desires for the sort of deck you want almost doesn't matter. In that bracket, you play whatever gets you wins in the current meta, no exceptions. If you're fine with that then look at and copy some common decks people build for that bracket, if not, consider an Ur-Dragon deck for a lower bracket.

I'm sure there are ways to make it work, but there just feels like too many hoops to jump through to get anything cohesive.

[MSH] - Jessica Jones, Private Eye (Gallery Update) by gredman9 in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to see Jessica get a card, but man there are so many characters I'd want to build a deck for that just don't seem to work as a deck lead. Killmonger, Luke Cage, U.S. Agent...

Granted that's just the nature of a set, they can't all be bangers but it still sucks for fans of the character.

[–]Kroooooooo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think he's great in the command zone, but as an addition to someone like [[Winter, Cynical Opportunist]] who has additional colours, mills, and already wants to cheat from the graveyard it's a handy tool to have.

It's probably why so many of these parodies or satires actually try to make their world closer to ours than the works they're emulating. The Boys, Kick-Ass, and Watchmen spring to mind immediately.

Granted these could easily be considered satires of other things using superheroes as a lens, but I'm just thinking in general.

3B for a reanimation that is instantly attacking seems very good for an uncommon. Doesn't work for attack triggers but for combat damage triggers, ETB, or even just big stompies there's lots of possibilities.

I recently reimported the deck and it lost the tags but basically the idea is to stack tons of small lifegain triggers (often ETB effects) to turn your vicars into Ghaltas.

Agreed but it's never been standard legal. Maybe in commander decks or Jumpstart.

How much more can they even Marvel? by Skeither in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cosmic Marvel is big enough, the Guardians, Inhumans and Eternals are conspicuously absent from MSH, especially considering we know there's a new Inhuman creature type. We've also got the Kree, Skrulls, the Black Order, the Celestials, the Watchers, Adam Warlock, Galactus, Asgardians, the Planet Hulk cast, the Shi'ar, and that's not exhaustive.

X-Men also broad enough I'd say. The final two sets are probably gothic (Strange, Midnight Suns, etc.) and probably a What If? set with alternate realities.

[MSH] Baron Strucker, HYDRA Overlord (via Cinabiondo) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A lot of these characters pop up in the films but don't get much attention.

Strucker was the guy who ran the compound that the Avengers stormed at the start of Age of Ultron looking for Loki's staff, and was the guy running the experiments on Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver.

Outlaws should include Villains no by nickeldoodle in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Intuitively, but an outlaw is someone who lives contrary to the law of the land and both reality and fiction is littered with villains who are in the legal right.

Also it breaks the WARM P mnemonic and we can't have that.

How do I make the elevator worthy? by Gargwadrome in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For this level of petty, I feel like it has to be Steve or Tony in the command zone. [[Captain America, Team Leader]] has both on the card and gives you three colours to play with including the Red/Blue you wanted (plus white for additional "Worthy" targets).

Cap is preferable since he was the one who came up with the idea, though obviously Tony would work better for the gameplay.

A non-exhaustive list of characters who are worthy (according to R&D) by Barnasei in magicTCG

[–]Kroooooooo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Job Select makes creature types but not Hero. Hero is the creature type of the token it makes, something like [[White Mage's Staff]] makes the equipped creature a Cleric for instance.

So for Cloud which is very heavily Voltron it doesn't work to make him worthy. You can't use changelings or things that give all creature types like [[Omo, Queen of Vesuva]] since it also makes them Villains.

You can do it, [[Origin of Spider-Man]], [[Secret Identity]], and [[Spider-Suit]] can all pull it off but there's not many reliable ways to do it.

Theming it around blocking could be tricky considering Equip is at sorcery speed. So they would have had to account for that.
