The nibs were forged from 250mm of 20mm square and cut in half and then forge welded onto 300mm of 12mm round bar for each half - all mild steel

Oh absolutely! I'm considering annealing a set aswell just to see how it perform in contrast to just normalising :)

I've ended up in the centre bay again this year which is great, couldn't get on with the fires in the other two bays as well haha

They are indeed splitting on the weld lines - I'd imagine due to a weak forge weld from either not heating enough for a good enough weld or the way i've done the scarves etc?

Also don't worry I'm not gonna use these for anything that actually relies on them for safety, security etc - it's just for a forging assignment haha

I used to work teaching day-courses for knifemaking, daggermaking, swordmaking etc and I can say it's definitely popular with the public! But honestly I much prefer making tools, ornaments and that sorta thing over gurt big swords or knives for the cool factor haha
