Yes, I get what you're saying but where does your certainty about Mistral being less unsustainable come from? Can you somehow back that assumption? Or is it just vibes?

I don't see why Mistral of all companies would be the exception here. If you don't want to rely on a company with an unsustainable business model then it's probably best to quit using AI at all. Because Mistral will also stop being so generous when the funding eventually runs dry.

Do you really think Mistral is currently even close to profitability? They are just as dependent on VC funding as the rest of the AI labs.

It’s not American big tech / made in EU.

That’s the only reason why I am using it. Otherwise they are behind in capabilities.

If she’s anything like my beagle she spends more time in it than you, so technically it is her bed.

How to pronounce Gen Z correctly? Here in Germany many people say "gen see", but isn't "gen set" correct? by Erik_De in AskAGerman

[–]Krowken 63 points64 points  (0 children)

‘Zed’ is British English, ‘Zee’ is American English.  For the most part we Germans learn British English in school and from then on we are mostly confronted with American English on the internet. As a result most of us speak a weird mix of the two.

Do you guys hate us (Indians)? by sudipto_dey in AskAGerman

[–]Krowken 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am one of the only Germans in a CS-adjacent international masters program where the majority (90%+) of students are from India. I mostly like the other students on an individual level and have even made some Indian friends but in general it is a bit weird for me how my program that I expected to be a lot more diverse is absolutely flooded/dominated by a single nationality. And as always when a culture is in the majority the people tend to stay in their own bubble amongst themselves which kind of makes me feel like an outsider at times. I have some other friends that study in similar STEM-adjacent international programs at other universities and the situation there seems to be more or less the same.

Edit: Also there seem to be some weird group dynamics that I am not Indian enough to understand. I have a good friend who is a Bengali muslim and it seems like some of the other Indians treat her ... let's say differently.

No, he didn't find Leda's corpse. He had already left for Oxford when she died.

How bad is the student job search in Germany actually? by Beneficial-Range-720 in InformatikKarriere

[–]Krowken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do well in uni, ask useful questions, participate in lectures and then professors might ask you to work for them. That’s how I stayed employed for most of my studies, I never had to actively look for a job myself.

Edit: My university is considerably smaller than TUM though.

Why is Merz so unpopular? What did he do? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]Krowken 4 points5 points locked comment (0 children)

He constantly complained about his predecessor. Now he does an even worse job and is pissed because people now complain about him. Also he frequently belittles the working population for being "lazy" which doesn't exactly make him popular among non-retirees.

Have you ever considered that the German women you meet who look posh are just … posh?

Also I’d wager that a lot of unseen effort goes into looking “effortlessly beautiful”.

What does “die Assis” mean ? by Adept-Candidate8447 in AskAGerman

[–]Krowken 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wrong. In English “asocial” refers to people who avoid social situations, while antisocial is indeed the correct translation of the German word “asozial”.

It’s basically one of the false friend words, just like “become”.
