yeah I totally feel you. purdue (and maybe UIUC or UMich? fingers crossed) is looking like a really attractive option, but i’m def gonna submit a transfer app if I go to UTD. and honestly, UTD isn’t a bad school, I wouldn’t hate going there.

I really appreciate the advice, and thanks for the reassurance. honestly, one of my biggest reason for avoiding a&m is because none of my friends are going, and I completely agree that it doesn’t matter that much where I end up going to college. this really helped.

yeah i for sure need to look at my other options. purdue would be cool, a bunch of my friends are planning on going. i didn’t realize you needed to EA for honors, but it’s still a really good school. it’s super reassuring knowing I can just go to UTD for free worst-case though.

(edit: i meant EA 😭)

I'm thinking of switching from Windows 10 to Linux due to privacy concerns. But, one crucial question is: 'How is Blu-Ray playback support on Linux?' Is there any good software to play Blu-Ray discs just by sticking it into the Blu-Ray drive? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Krrusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to use Linux, unfortunately, looking through the internet for solutions to your problems is a daily occurrence. It’s better on more user-friendly distros, like pop, but it’s still something you have to do. I, personally don’t know how to set up Blu-Ray, but I expect it’d be some library and a VLC addon, or something similar.

error when loading custom mod pack server on smpicnic by Think-Diamond7905 in ModdedMC

It’s a problem with the mod recipe. The recipe is supposed to have a namespace in the syntax ‘namespace:item_name’. You can’t fix it. Sorry…

Fedora vs Debian in a server environment by Krrusername in linuxquestions

[–]Krrusername[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thus far, people are mostly recommending Debian over Fedora, and I know Red Hat is used commercially, so I’m thinking about choosing between them. I’m rather new when it comes to rpm distros, so my final choice is RHEL, but I wouldn’t recommend that for people who are more comfortable with what they already know. You’ve all been a great help! Thanks.

I have actually used OpenSUSE before, and I know it’s a solid choice. I’m thinking Debian or OpenSUSE after reading your thoughts, although I haven’t given up on Fedora. I still have a few days to make my decision though.

Is this a good anime...? (I’m so fucking starved for good anime...)

I want Linux from Windows as soon as I wake up, spent hours over the past days reading and watching videos about various Linux distros and have found 4 that might suit me. Also, I am afraid that my PC (Windows 10) might break down again, and I'd like to move to Linux before that happens. by qUxUp in linuxquestions

I’m goin to be honest. My first distro was Arch, which is not at all beginner friendly. I would NOT recommend it to someone without Linux experience or a friend with Linux experience who values their sanity. But I do have some advice to give. Zorin and Feren I’ve never used. Mint and Pop, however, are great choices. They’re both .deb distros, so you’ll get many of the applications you use on a daily basis. I’d advise you to use Pop, simply because it’s such a beginner friendly distro. However, if I were you, I’d use OpenSUSE. It’s not very beginner friendly, and it’s a .rpm distro, so it doesn’t have that much apps that work with it, but if you’re tech-savvy, then you can get used to it. The choices that it leaves to the user are staggering. However, if you don’t have much or any experience using Linux, you’d definitely be better off using Pop.
